Purphoros, God of the Forge

Legendary Enchantment Creature — God

Indestructible

As long as your devotion to red is less than five, Purphoros isn't a creature.

Whenever another creature enters the battlefield under your control, Purphoros deals 2 damage to each opponent.

: Creatures you control get +1/+0 until end of turn.

Awesome to see a Kresh list, I feel like he's pretty underplayed. I have a list of my own you might take a look at (Blood for the Bloodbraid!, though it might be trying too hard for what you're aiming to achieve here (for example we both have Elemental Mastery, but I run it with Purphoros, God of the Forge because as long as Kresh has a high power the two win on the spot, my list has lots of stuff that wins very quickly once Kresh reaches critical mass). Another card that can go off with Kresh almost without support is All Will Be Counters, because you can just machine gun down the whole board if you can kill something big to kick things off. You also might find a use for Ezuri's Predation, it is a lot of mana, but the effect is such that you almost always end up with a huge Kresh and a few 4/4s to chump with, it plays better in Kresh than in most other lists. Oh, and incase you want to one-shot someone you might try Mandate of Abaddon, if Kresh is bigger than everything a particular player has out then you play this and one-shot them, is that a reasonable play for your meta?

If you want any specific help with Kresh, feel free to ask, he's an incredibly fun Commander to build, there are just so many cards that are absolutely bonkers together (and with Kresh).

I have a few suggestions for ya, but not a bad start.

Reconnaissance is worth its' weight in gold here. If you're unfamiliar with the card I suggest looking it up, it's pretty busted if you know what you're doing. Long story short is attack with EVERYONE safely, deal combat damage in most situations, and untap each creature at the most opportune time (including after combat damage is dealt... both 1st strike and normal) so everyone is untapped by the end of combat.

Purphoros, God of the Forge makes it so every vamp you cast domes each opponent for 4. It also lets you run Scapegoat as a finisher instead of just as 1 mana answer to wraths (trust me when I say bouncing all your stuff back to hand is 100% worth it in response to wraths so you actually have a grip full of cards to redeploy and get eminence triggers again).

On the subject of protection, this is probably the most important support type for aggro decks and there's zero of them in the deck. Don't get caught with your pants down or that is a miserable game where you end up with no hand topdecking cards until you lose. Teferi's Protection, Clever Concealment, Boros Charm, Flawless Maneuver, and I also lump Plumb the Forbidden in this section (same logic as Scapegoat). Seriously, run them ALL... unless your meta has like 0 removal you won't regret it.

Let me know if you're picking up what I'm putting down, I have more suggestions and/or help with cuts if you want it. Also, feel free to check out my list for inspiration. Upvotes on any of my decks are appreciated. Edgar's Dega Vampires

Everybody knows being illiterate is the coolest, but it also means you can't read. This leads to things like putting Broadside Bombardiers into the deck even though Boast is bad poopoo garbage for us. We use good garbage around here!

Swapped out for Connecting the Dots.

In other news, Maskwood Nexus has been very fun, leading to interesting lines and interactions in every game it was played. Best one was against slivers making all my Goblins swole af, and then dodging The Argent Etchings  Flipboard wipe because they were Phyrexian Goblins too. I haven't yet grabbed a Purphoros, God of the Forge or a Toralf, God of Fury  Flip off of Moggcatcher or Goblin Matron because of the Nexus, but soon!

What kind of budget are you working with? A combo Animar list can be a pretty expensive undertaking thanks to things like Palinchron, Cloudstone Curio, Walking Ballista/Purphoros, God of the Forge, etc. More of an aggro build can be done a budget though.

I have an Animar list here on tappedout but it's retired and hasn't been updated for a few sets. It's a combo list built around Ancestral Statue and Cloudstone Curio combos. Animar, Gaea's Hemorrhoid ⫷PRIMER⫸

Thanks for checking out the deck Squidcod. Overall, the priciest cards in the deck are Terror of the Peaks, Goldspan Dragon, Purphoros, God of the Forge, Mana Drain, Cyclonic Rift, Jeska's Will, and the various Shocks and Fetches. The real "meat" of the deck isn't as expensive

You could definitely swap Cyc Rift with Evacuation or Wash Out. Mana Drain could probably get swapped with Familiar's Ruse for some additional utility of taking a creature back to hand. Alternatively, you could also change some of those pricier creature slots into creatures with Ninjutsu, if you wanted a bit of that.

Short version, just for the sake of being 100% certain, if I have, say, Purphoros, God of the Forge and a Roaming Throne (creature type: God) but lack the devotion to make Purphoros a creature, does Roaming Throne double the trigger when something else ETBs?

I'm assuming not, but never hurts to be sure.

If your goal is to double damage effects that rely on tokens, have you considered slotting in cards like Impact Tremors or Purphoros, God of the Forge?
