How to Upload Animated Screenshots

This guide explains how to upload GIF and PNG files as Steam screenshots. This guide is also the quickest method for uploading custom screenshots.

Below are the console commands. Please read the guide before using them.

Animated Screenshot Code:
$J('[name="file_type"]').val("5");

Animated Screenshot Code for Images Longer Than 506 Pixels:
$J('#image_width').val('1000');$J('#image_height').val('1');$J('[name="file_type"]').val("5");

Introduction

The steps below will explain how to upload .GIF (and PNG) files as Steam screenshots.
This is also the fastest and easiest method to uploading custom screenshots.

Step 1

Start by opening this link in a browser:

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/edititem/767/3/

Or, if you want to add your screenshot to a game, open the game's upload artwork page in a browser.
Once you've opened it, right click anywhere on the page and select "Inspect Elements".

Step 2

Go to console tab and paste the following code:

$J('[name="file_type"]').val("5");

If your artwork is taller than 506 pixels, paste this code instead:

$J('#image_width').val('1000');$J('#image_height').val('1');$J('[name="file_type"]').val("5");

Once it's pasted in the console, hit enter.

Step 3

After sending the code, close the console and fill out the upload artwork page like normal. When you're done, go ahead and click "Save and Continue". Your artwork will be uploaded as a screenshot!

the right one is not working properly, its showing itself tiny

Well, this doesn't work so great. I was hoping to post actual screenshots of things on Steam to use in Discussions, when I noticed thumbnails are missing, considering the web uploader doesn't generate them.

They silently reduced the file size limit to 5 MB and forgot to change the dialogue text in the same script for some reason.

They also reduced it on the backend side, so if you bypass the local check and try to upload anything larger, it will not work.

Doesnt work. My Gif is only 6,5MB ... it still says, its too big (8MB)... ;-;

So i used {LINK REMOVED} and reduced it to 195x195 and it somehow worked
