If your playing this game don't play for the story. The characters are shallow lifeless husks only existing to pad run time. You can tell they really went for quantity over quality, while playing you'll often wonder "did I even meet this character?" when they reoccur in the story after some time because of how unmemorable they are. I played about 100 hours, the most enjoyable part was running around at night and alerting howlers to start chases or admiring the scenery (which I loved about dying light 1).
The graphics are good, and I love bonking zombies into walls as much as the next guy. But the endings and characters are very rushed, unsatisfying, and shallow, and for a game that focuses on your interactions with them it makes for very bad game play. There is parts where you can tell they genuinely took the time to create personality between Alden and others, but most often its some witty filler banter that reminds me of a 30 year old actor playing a role as a high schooler. The game is fun with friends, I don't think i will be replaying simply because of how disappointing the build up and execution is.
Juan and Lawan were the only characters that actually felt like people and not just a friendship that was shoved down my throat (or the game forcing my character to care about random people that he's only known for about all of 10 minutes) to justify making Alden choose between two equally ♥♥♥♥♥♥ options. there are parts that make me laugh, and for that I would say its worth playing but don't put too much riding on it. After being a big fan of dying light one, waiting a year and a half, and playing this I feel disheartened.
