"We have a ship down. We lost a Destroyer."
―A First Order officer, in regards to the Sutta[5]

The Sutta was a Xyston-class Star Destroyer of the Sith Eternal's fleet, the Final Order, that was helmed by Captain Strok in 35 ABY. The Sutta and the other vessels of the fleet were activated on the Sith planet Exegol on the direct command of Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Sidious. After the Derriphan briefly left Exegol and destroyed the planet Kijimi, the Resistance, led by Generals Poe Dameron and Finn, launched an attack on the Sith fleet and the First Order flagship Steadfast.

The Sutta, like other vessels in the fleet, attacked Resistance forces, until the Citizens' Fleet arrived to reinforce the Resistance and defeat the Sith Eternal forces. The Sutta was the first Star Destroyer targeted and, following the destruction of its axial superlaser, was destroyed by multiple explosions that obliterated it.

The Sutta's main armament is targeted by the Resistance.

The Sutta was a Xyston-class Star Destroyer,[2] that was manufactured by Kuat-Entralla Drive Yards.[1] As a Xyston-class Star Destroyer, the Sutta was 2,406 meters in length and 682 meters in height.[4] It was based on an upscaled version of the old Galactic Empire's Imperial I-class Star Destroyers[1] and as such featured two deflector shield generator domes on top of the ship's conning tower[4] where the bridge was situated.[1]

The Sutta was armed with an axial superlaser[3] that was capable of destroying entire planets through orbital bombardment[1] and was fed directly from the ventral solar ionization reactor. It also featured launch bays adjacent to the superlaser,[4] as well as seven ion engines and a hyperdrive. Like all other Sith Star Destroyers, the Sutta featured the red lines of the Sith Eternal cult on its hull.[3]

History[]

"Just… shoot stuff! Uh, I mean, hit those underbelly cannons with all you've got. Every one we knock out is a world saved."
―Poe Dameron, to his allies as they target the Sutta[6]

The Sutta was one of over a thousand Sith Star Destroyers on Exegol.

Like the other Star Destroyers of the Sith Eternal's fleet, the Final Order, the Sutta was secretly manufactured by Kuat-Entralla Drive Yards in the shipyard forges in the Forbidden District below the surface of the Sith planet Exegol[1] and was eventually placed under the command of Captain Strok.[2] The Sutta, and other Sith Star Destroyers of the Final Order, were under the direct control of the leader of the Sith Eternal, the Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Sidious. Following the arrival of Kylo Ren, the Supreme Leader of the First Order, to the Sith Citadel on Exegol and his encounter with the Dark Lord[3] in 35 ABY,[5] the entire 1,080 Star Destroyers[7] of the Sith armada broke through the surface of the planet, poised to leave Exegol and conquer the galaxy. One ship of the armada, the Derriphan, was briefly sent out to the wider galaxy and destroyed the planet Kijimi before it returned to Exegol. Afterward, Sidious's granddaughter Rey arrived on Exegol to confront the Sith Lord. Under the joint leadership of Generals Poe Dameron and Finn, the Resistance, which had been engaged in a war against the First Order, followed Rey to the Sith world and attacked the Sith fleet, beginning the Battle of Exegol.[3]

Initially arriving to destroy the navigation tower on the surface of Exegol to prevent the launch of the Final Order fleet, the Resistance starfighters were met with a barrage of laser fire from the Sith Star Destroyers before being confronted by TIE/dg starfighters. After the tower was deactivated and the signal transferred to the First Order flagship, the Resurgent-class Star Destroyer Steadfast, the Resistance fighters became overwhelmed by the Sith Eternal forces. Resistance soldiers onboard the hull of the Steadfast attempted to disrupt the signal, which they momentarily succeeded. As Resistance forces dwindled, General Lando Calrissian arrived with the light freighter Millennium Falcon at the forefront of the Citizens' Fleet, an expansive[3] 14,000-strong[8] allied fleet from all parts of the galaxy. With the new reinforcements, Dameron ordered the others to focus on the superlasers of the Star Destroyers.[3]

Sutta-destroyed

The Sutta is completely destroyed.

Subsequently, the Sutta was the first Sith Star Destroyer targeted by Resistance and allied forces.[3] The Falcon,[6] RZ-2 A-wing interceptors, T-70 X-wing starfighters, and a B-Wing Fighter focused their fire on the Sutta's underbelly axial superlaser, resulting in a chain reaction of explosions from the cannon to the reactor. Following the detonation of the reactor, more explosions tore through the midship and engulfed the command structure in front of the tower. More explosions followed, and the Sutta was consumed by the destruction. Following the loss of the Sutta, a crew member aboard the Steadfast's bridge announced that they had lost a Destroyer. The other Sith Star Destroyers eventually followed the Sutta in destruction, with the Resistance and its allies emerging victorious from the battle, which witnessed the complete destruction of the Sith forces and Darth Sidious.[3]

Commanders and crew[]

The Sutta, like the other Sith Star Destroyers of the Final Order, was under the overall command of Allegiant General Enric Pryde under the direction of Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Sidious,[3] with Captain Strok serving as the commanding officer of the ship while at Exegol.[2]

Behind the scenes[]

The Sutta first appeared in the final film of the Star Wars saga, Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker, which was released in 2019.[3] Its name was revealed in the 2021 reference book Star Wars: Battles that Changed the Galaxy.[2] In the functioning Sith language created by Ben Grossblatt for the Star Wars Legends book Book of Sith: Secrets from the Dark Side, sutta means "spear."[9]
