"Young master, have you heard the tale of the Jedi Master Murrtaggh and the Dark Underlord?"
―A Bimm bard[2]

Murrtaggh was a Jedi Master of the Jedi Order active during the New Sith Wars[1] of 2000 BBY1000 BBY.[3] At one point he negotiated a deal with mercenaries of the Mandalorian warrior culture, hiring them to stage a diversionary attack on[1] the camp of[4] the Dark Underlord, a mysterious and powerful leader of the New Sith—the then-current incarnation of the Sith, the ideological antithesis of the Jedi. During the ensuing[1] 1750 BBY battle on the Outer Rim Territories[3] planet[5] Malrev IV, Murrtaggh sneaked into the Dark Underlord's territory and assassinated the Sith, although in the process he himself fell to the dark side of the Force.[1] By the time of the reign of the Galactic Empire[2] more than a millennium later,[3] the history of Murrtaggh and the Dark Underlord had become immortalized in a tale told by Bimm bards whose repertoire of stories and songs focused on the exploits of the Jedi.[2]

Behind the scenes[]

Murrtaggh was first mentioned in the 1995 sourcebook Heroes & Rogues, authored by Rick Stuart and Paul Sudlow and published for use with West End Games' Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game.[2]
