During the Clone Wars, the Confederacy of Independent Systems' droid army[1] maintained a unit of battle droids on the planet Lola Sayu within the Citadel prison. The unit was commanded by Commander Osi Sobeck and consisted of several different models of battle droids, including B1-series battle droids, B2-series super battle droids, droidekas, BX-series droid commandos, OOM-series security droids,[1] LM-432 crab droids,[2] Ringneck recon droids,[3] and several packs of anoobas.[2] It also used Single Trooper Aerial Platforms and had at least ten squads and several droid battalions within it.[3]
In 20 BBY,[5] the Galactic Republic dispatched a strike team to Lola Sayu to break into the Citadel, where they were to retrieve Jedi General Even Piell and his Republic forces from the prison, who had been brought there by Separatist forces intent on gaining the coordinates for the strategic Nexus Route. However, while inside the Citadel, the Republic strike team had several run-ins with the unit as they attempted to keep them from fleeing the planet with the desired information and as a result, the Citadel forces, under orders from Citadel Command, activated all security protocols within the prison in order to prevent their escape.[1]
