The Bogano Vault, also known as the Ancient Vault, the Zeffo Vault, or simply the Vault, was a vault constructed by the Zeffonian species on Bogano. The Vault was secured using ancient Zeffo technology and required both a Zeffo artifact known as an astrium and strength in the Force to open.

History[]

Built centuries before the Clone Wars, the Vault of Bogano was constructed out of karnite, a mineral-rich stone mined from the planet's surface. The interior walls of the monolithic structure were decorated with inscriptions etched into the metallic plating which lined the walls. The Vault's interior was filled with ancient, fragile offering vessels, left by pilgrims in the distant past. The Vault was only accessible by Force-sensitives.^[1]

The Jedi Master Eno Cordova discovered the Vault while studying the Zeffonians, who had long been extinct. The Vault required someone strong in the Force and equipped with a Zeffo artifact called an astrium to open. Cordova later used the Vault to hide a holocron containing a list of Force-sensitive children in the event that the Jedi Order needed to be rebuilt. Several years after Order 66, Cere Junda brought former Jedi Padawan Cal Kestis to the Vault, hoping to use the holocron to rebuild the Jedi Order.^[1]

Once Cal returned to the planet with the astrium from Dathomir, he placed the astrium in the vault, giving him a vision of Padawans he was training. The Empire then attacked, and Cal appeared to be an Inquisitor with the younglings being tortured to surrender. Cal awoke and grabbed the holocron only to see the Second Sister before him. They dueled, with Cal eventually stealing her lightsaber. This gave him an echo of her past trauma. Trilla made off with the holocron, leaving behind a detachment of stormtroopers to deal with Cal.^[1]

During the Galactic Civil War, the Bogano Vault was visited by the rebels Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa, who were investigating planets that could potentially host a rebel base. The discovery of stormtroopers on the planet alerted the pair to the fact that the Empire had discovered the planet.^[2]

The Bogano Vault was later visited by SF-R3 and CAM when they visited Bogano to find a Bogling. The pair ran through a cave which led to a hole in the wall of the central chamber. The central chamber had become inhabited by Boglings.^[3]

Conception and appearances[]

The Bogano Vault was created for the single-player video game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, developed by Respawn Entertainment and published by Electronic Arts (EA)—the first installment of the Star Wars Jedi multimedia series^[1] which was released on November 15, 2019.^[4] The location was first revealed in the "Cal's Mission" trailer of the game on September 26, 2019^[5] and was first identified as the "Bogano Vault" in the game itself.^[1] Concept art was done by artist Gabe Yeganyan.^[6] Like with the rest of the game, the location is heavily influenced by 3D Metroidvania type design—an action-adventure subgenre defined by large, interconnected maps containing paths that could be unlocked as the player progresses through the game.^[7]

The vault later made an appearance in the seventh^[2] and eighth issue^[8] of the Star Wars Adventures comic series, as part of "The Princess and the Bog, A Twin Tale" Part 1 and 2 comic stories written by Sam Maggs and published by IDW Publishing.^[2]^[8] Part 1 of "The Princess and the Bog, A Twin Tale" was released on July 28, 2021^[9] and Part 2 was released on August 18, 2021.^[10] In both comic stories, the bottom part of the vault is pictured as a mound, and the vault is placed on a hill. The comic stories also picture the top of the vault as being shorter.

Inside the vault, two murals of Zeffonians are pictured next to a semicircular mirror.^[2]^[8] These all contradict Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order, which pictures the bottom part of the vault as a hemisphere and places the vault on the edge of a cliff. The game also pictures the top part of the vault as being longer and the inside as having a mural of Zeffonians next to two semicircular mirrors.^[1] In the "Bogling" episode, the vault's interior is missing a slot where an astrium could be placed to "perceive the mysteries of the vault," and the vault is not shown as partially submerged in water.^[3] These all contradict the video game;^[1] however, the vault not being partially submerged in water can be attributed to the passage of time, as the game and the episode are set in different times.^[11]^[12]
