Peaky Blinders is reportedly getting not one, but two upcoming spinoffs.

According to Bloomberg, the popular period crime drama starring Cillian Murphy is getting two separate spinoffs, and they sound pretty interesting.

The first is set in Boston in the middle of the 20th century, several decades after the conclusion of Peaky Blinders. The second spinoff apparently focuses on Polly (originally played by Helen McCrory), the matriarch of the criminal Shelby clan.

McCrory herself died back in 2021 aged 52, so it’s likely they’ll be looking to place the spin-off during a different era, perhaps delving into the character’s youth.

As for the Boston-set spin-off, it’s unknown how this will take shape, and the change of time period could open up numerous possibilities. However, it’s worth noting that James Frenchville played the South Boston crime leader Jack Nelson in Peaky Blinders Season 6, and this could well open up the Peaky Blinders world, allowing the drama to move stateside.

Peaky Blinders debuted on BBC One in the UK in September 2013 and was created by British filmmaker Steven Knight. Cillian Murphy starred as Thomas “Tommy” Shelby, crime boss of the Peaky Blinders criminal gang that operated in Birmingham in the wake of World War I. The ensemble cast included Sam Neill, Joe Cole, Helen McCrory, and Annabelle Wallis.

Of course, there’s been talk of a spin-off movie previously, but this is something separate. Writer Steven Knight recently updated the Radio Times about the movie, revealing that it’s in the final stages of being written.

“I’m just working on the final bits of it at the moment,” he revealed. “I just sit down at the keyboard and start. It’s a bit like having a dream, for me. You sit there and all this stuff comes, and then you read it back and think, 'That’s pretty good – but where did it come from?'”

“The plan is to start shooting that in the middle of next year,” he added.

Earlier this month, Murphy said he would be “open” to return in the movie. “I’m totally open to the idea, but I also do think it was a kind of perfect six seasons,” he said. “It’s sometimes hard to move into the film format, and I do like the ambiguity of the ending, but I’m always open to a great script, who wouldn’t be?”

As for the upcoming spinoff shows, when they’ll be heading to our screens is a bit of a mystery. But it looks as though we can expect the spin-off film sooner rather than later.
