James Gunn has confirmed Creature Commandos, the first project in the new DC Universe, will premiere on Max in December.

Gunn, who is leading the charge for the new DCU along with Peter Safran, revealed the release window for Creature Commandos on Threads when someone directly asked him when the animated series would be coming out. "December!!" he replied, giving his followers a timeframe for the launch of Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.

Creature Commandos is one of the wackier DC properties. It sees Suicide Squad's Amanda Waller assemble a black ops team out of monstrous prisoners comprising supernatural creatures such as a vampire, a werewolf, and a gorgon, among others, who will be appearing in the seven-episode animated series this year.

The voice cast for the series includes Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., David Harbour as Eric Frankenstein, Indira Varma as The Bride, Maria Bakalova as Princess Ilana Rostovic, Zoe Chao as Nina Mazursky, Alan Tudyk as Dr. Phosphorus, Sean Gunn as Weasel and G.I. Robot, Steve Agee as John Economos, and Anya Chalotra as Circe.

Creature Commandos is the first series on the new DCU slate, while Superman is the second entry (and the first movie), due on July 11, 2025, with David Corenswet in the titular role. It will tell the story of a young Superman, though it won't be an origin story and will also feature tons of other DC heroes and villains.

Chapter One of the DCU has plenty of movies and TV shows, but some projects have shuffled since Gunn and Safran announced it in 2023.
