SpongeBob SquarePants Renewed for Season 15

Nostalgia, keep 'em coming.

If you’ve been feeling nostalgic, I’m happy to report that the past is, in fact, present in that animated series SpongeBob SquarePants is still proudly running on air. And better still, the cartoon series has just been renewed for its 15th season, just one year ahead of its monumental 25th anniversary.

The Nickelodeon program began in July 1999 and, including the Season 15 pickup, has 345 total episodes to its name. The upcoming season will include 26 episodes that “uncover even bigger nautical adventures,” according to the network, including “SpongeBob thinking he has developed an allergy to Krabby Patties” and “Plankton learning self-defense from Sandy.”

Honestly, those two scenarios alone are reason enough to give season 15 of Spongebob the old college try. SpongeBob would undoubtedly be gutted by the idea of being allergic to Krabby Patties and chaos would undoubtedly ensue. And a team-up between Plankton and Sandy? That’s unlikely enough to have my interest.

It's not surprising Nickelodeon continues to invest in SpongeBob SquarePants either, as the network says it has “reigned as the most-watched animated series for 21 consecutive years” since its 1999 release. Nickelodeon continues to produce the show, which was created by Stephen Hillenburg.

All the new episodes will debut on Nickelodeon per usual, while Seasons 1-12 are streaming on Paramount+. It's not the only new Spongebob content to look forward to either; it was announced back in April that a new movie, Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie, is headed to Netflix.
