The Iliad is an ancient Greek epic poem set during the Trojan War.

Bibliographic notes

The Iliad was composed in Greek over 2500 years ago, and is believed to have been performed orally for many years before it was written down. The earliest surviving full manuscripts are from the 10th century, the earliest printed edition was published in the 15th century, and the earliest published English translations began appearing late in the 16th century.
