I have two basic tips to share with you. One, identify if you wish to simply place a link in the presentation going to the website or the live website itself. Also, choosing the right PowerPoint themes can enhance the visual appeal of your presentation

Two, should you opt for the latter, check if there is internet access in the venue of your presentation since it won’t work without it. Once you’ve figured these out, you could go ahead and make your presentation.

Let me now go through with you the tricks on how to add a website to a PowerPoint presentation. Starting with simply inserting the website through a link.

Tricks To Open A Website From Within A Powerpoint Presentation

As mentioned, there are several tricks I’d like to share on how you can open a website in a PowerPoint presentation. These are through inserting a link or enabling PowerPoint Add-Ins and features.

A. Open The Website Through A Link

To insert the link, do the following:

1. Create a text box on the slide where you wish the website would be linked.

2. Click the text box and go to the Insert tab of the menu.

2. Choose the “Hyperlink” icon to open the Insert Hyperlink pop-up window.

3. From the said window, choose “Existing File or Web Page.”

4. Place the website’s Universal Resource Locator (URL) or complete domain name in the “Address” field.

5. Click “OK” to complete the process. The URL will appear in the text box.

6. If you wish to change how the URL appears on the slide, go to the Home tab of the menu. Choose the font type, size, and paragraph orientation you wish to have for the URL.

7. You add an image or screenshot of the website’s homepage to accompany the text link.

8. The image may also be linked to the website. To do this, right-click the image and choose “Hyperlink.” This will open the same window where you placed the website’s URL earlier. Simply replicate the process for it.

9. Finally, go to Slide Show to view the presentation. Click the text link or image to test if it works. It should then open a web browser and load the website you linked.

B. Open The Website Through PowerPoint Add-Ins

For PowerPoint 2007 to 2016 users, follow these steps if you wish to present a live website in your presentation. This trick is a bit lengthy for you need to install LiveWeb first before you could add the live website to your presentation.

How to install LiveWeb in PowerPoint?

1. Install LiveWeb first since you need to add it as a feature of PowerPoint.

2. Once installed, search for LiveWeb.ppam on your computer since you need to know this location for PowerPoint.

3. Open PowerPoint and click the small arrow-down icon at the upper left portion of the menu, which is the third icon beside Save button. (This is called the Customizer Quick Access Toolbar.)

4. A menu will expand. Scroll down to More Commands and click it.

5. A pop-up window will open containing the PowerPoint Options. Choose the “Add-Ins” option to see the features of this tab.

6. On the “Manage” drop-down menu, choose “PowerPoint Add-Ins” and click “Go.” This will open the Add-Ins pop-up window.

3. Paste the website’s Universal Resource Locator (URL) or complete domain name in the “Add” field.

4. Click “Add” and “Next” to open the second step, which will prompt you to choose if you wish to refresh the web page automatically or not.

5. Tick the box that suits you and click “Next”.

6. Similarly choose the options or specifications you wish for the website as it will appear in your presentation in Step 3 of the Wizard before clicking “Next”.

7. Click “Finish” to insert or add the website you’ve chosen to the PowerPoint presentation.

8. A LiveWeb pop-up window will open to confirm the successful process. Simultaneously, the slide where you inserted the website will show a Windows placeholder image as confirmation of the action you did.

9. Click “OK” to close the LiveWeb pop-up window.

10. View the website by clicking on “Slide Show.” Make sure you are connected to the internet before doing so, to avoid receiving an error message when clicking the particular slide.

C. Open The Website Through PowerPoint Developer Options

Besides the two mentioned tricks, you can also add a website to your PowerPoint presentation through its Developer tab. You can do this by following these steps:

1. Open the PowerPoint Options pop-up window by doing steps 3 and 4 of B above.

2. Choose “Popular” to see its options.

3. Tick the “Show Developer tab in the Ribbon” before clicking “OK”.

4. Close PowerPoint to enable the added feature. Open it again. You will now see a “Developer” tab in your menu.

5. In the “Developer” tab, click the hammer icon (“More Controls”) to open its pop-up window.

6. Scroll down to “Microsoft Web Browser” and click “OK”.

7. A Microsoft Windows image will appear on the slide to indicate the website you wish to open.

8. Arrange the image where you wish it to be located in the slide, as well as, the size you wish it to appear. Simply click it and drag or resize it when needed.

9. Right-click the “View Code” option to open a new window, which is a “Microsoft Visual Basic”.

10. The “Microsoft Visual Basic” window will show you this string of code: “Private Sub GoBtn_Click() WebBrowser1.Navigate(‘URL’) End Sub.” Simply modify the URL with that of the actual URL of the website you wish to open in your presentation.
