Asset Master Markets is a private investment company utilising its own capital to generate returns, whilst providing quality investor and financial education products and services. We offer investment courses, financial models, market insights, resources and other digital products to help new investors realize their potential and manage their assets. We also support sustainable development goals by providing quality financial education, and promoting decent work and economic growth, whilst contributing to reduced inequalities. 1. History Asset Master Markets was founded in 2024 by Ronnie Kamkwasi, a passionate entrepreneur majored in Banking and Finance with a background in Law. Originally, our business offered a single investment course dubbed the "Stock Market Investing for the Layman Online Course". The course began in November 2022, its inception was inspired by a lack of relevant investor education about the capital markets in Malawi. Malawi's capital markets are still emerging and unable to meet the core function of channeling national savings, through financial instruments to meet the long-term investment needs of the economy. Our current role is to help ordinary citizens understand markets and invest with licensed institutions. Our long-term goal is to become a capital market intermediary offering investment and other financial services across the continent. 2. Mission To empower individuals by providing efficient and accessible financial services, resources, and tools fostering informed decision-making and financial inclusion. 3. Vision To become a leading capital markets intermediary in southern Africa, through facilitating long-term funding and investments for the real economy. 4. Are Government Bonds Truly Risk-free? In our last post we shared pointers on the Yield Curve, what it means and how to interpret it. This post delves into the potential risks of investing in Government Securities.📊 1. Credit Risk: The risk that a country will default on its debt. This is typically not an issue with countries like the US, Canada, or the UK, but it can be for countries like Greece and Venezuela. Government defaults are not improbable. 2. Liquidity Risk: Can you sell your bond in case of an emergency (i.e. you need cash) without losing value? The bond market isn't always instantly liquid, and some bonds are easier to trade than others. 3. Inflation Risk: The potential that your returns could be wiped out by inflation, especially if you're holding a bond to maturity where your interest rate is fixed and doesn't adjust for inflation throughout the life of your bond. You can't sustain yourself on a 4% coupon if the inflation is 8%. 4. Interest Rate Risk: The risk that a change in overall interest rates will reduce the value of a bond or other fixed-rate investment: As interest rates rise bond prices fall, and vice versa. This means that the market price of existing bonds drops to offset the more attractive rates of new bond issues. It is useful to note that in finance your yield serves as a reflection of the level of risk you're taking on.

Understanding The Yield Curve.📈 You may often see it and wonder what exactly it is, how to interpret it and how you can use it as an investor. Investors use the yield curve to balance risk and return and we'd like to educate you on the 'Yield Curve'. What is a Yield Curve? A yield curve is a line that plots the interest rates, at a set point in time, of bonds having equal credit quality but differing maturity dates. There are three kinds of Yield curve and here's what they mean and represents: 1. The Normal Yield Curve: A normal yield curve is characterized by lower yields for shorter-term maturities and higher yields for longer-term maturities. A normal yield curve is the most common and generally reflects a stable and expanding economy. 2. The Flat Curve: A flat yield curve is a yield curve with little difference between short-term and long-term rates for bonds of the same credit quality. A flattening curve indicates that investors are losing faith in the economy's prospects for growth. 3. The Inverted Yield Curve: An inverted yield curve occurs when short-term debt instruments carry higher yields than long-term instruments of the same credit risk profile. An inverted yield curve reflects investors' expectations for a decline in longer-term interest rates as a result of a deteriorating economic performance.
