Name[]

The official name as per Notch is "creative", not "sandbox". We should reflect this on the wiki. ~~ citricsquid

Apparently I was wrong, nevermind :(

Game modes[]

This page says that Creative is one of the many game modes. As I count it there are two, Creative and Survival. I'm going to edit it, so it says its one of the two game modes. Woodcock 23:42, 30 April 2011 (UTC)

Actual FAIL[]

In beta 1.8 creative mode will be included. Notch said it. –The preceding unsigned comment was added by Stickbrush (Talk|Contribs) 14:42, 31 July 2011. Please sign your posts with ~~~~

Torch placing -bug?[]

I don't think it can be called a bug, that placing torches on blocks and then deleting them increases the number of them on the hotbar, because you can just add more than one of any item from the selection screen, and deleting some items also drops them and causes quantity to rise (tnt, for example) 83.6.74.65 17:36, 15 September 2011 (UTC) When a block is destroyed, it shouldn't drop anything. Unable to save on Free Classic[]

Tried this on two different computers now, but the Save File and Load File functions on Minecraft Classic (the free one) have ceased to work for me. Does anyone know if this is because of Mojang or is it just a huge coincidence down my end? Smith.

How do I make creative map into survival map?[]

Specifically, can I do it without installing new programs onto my laptop? 172.16.4.58 10:13, 21 September 2011 (UTC)

It says in the article that you can edit the .level file, but the file is now called level.dat and isn't human readable. You'll probably need a third party app to change it. I think they left out the ability to switch back and forth for a very good reason - if you build a bedrock castle and fill up a whole bunch of chests with diamond armor, tools, and golden apples, it can break the game pretty bad. It's already pretty easy, so... --71.176.46.92 01:32, 24 September 2011 (UTC)

Creative 1.8 and Contraptions[]

The two mouse actions are 'use what's in hand' and 'hit target with what's in hand.' The latter is used for toggling levers, pushing buttons and opening doors. However, in a Creative world, eny block will be destroyed on the first hit, so levers/buttons/doors are destroyed instead of operated. This limits useful contraptions that can be built in a Creative world. --Mozai 13:24, 26 September 2011 (UTC)

Actually, you CAN press a button without destroying it, I think its the right mouse button. Ive done it so often. Swpe 14:42, 26 September 2011 (UTC)
Use the right mouse button. It's not just 'use what's in hand', but 'use what's in hand and interact with the world (open doors, chests etc.)' — MiiNiPaaT|C 13:43, 26 September 2011 (UTC)
I dont know what happened, yet we seem to have posted at the same time, deleting MiiNiPaa`s post. I fixed it Swpe 14:48, 26 September 2011 (UTC)
I can't believe anyone actually still uses left-click for interacting with things. The many bugs over past versions to do with left-click interacting made me permantely stick to right-clicking everything. It makes far more sense since you can only right-click for entering minecarts/boats and interacting with chests/workbenches/dispensers/furnaces. I really think the ability for left-click to toggle buttons, doors and levers should be removed, they're the only blocks that can be interacted with left-click and right-click instead of right-click only, it's dumb. Plus the fact that if you want to destroy them, it also triggers them, which is especially bad in the case of doors, as they open/close when you try to break them, so you have to hit them on the hinge area. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 14:49, 26 September 2011 (UTC)
So what? It makes sense that you can slam a door open or hit a button with your sword.
Of course, it's a little different in creative... --70.128.114.23 06:21, 16 October 2011 (UTC)

Thing is, you still can't change a piston from active to inactive, which severely limits what you can do with it.. unless you can and there's something I'm missing.

Put a redstone torch or anything with redstone and connect it to the piston. Tylamimo (talk) 13:56, 25 October 2014 (UTC)

Add experience and spawn beasties.[]

Now that it's the full version, any way to add experience levels to mess with enchanting? And is there any way to toss out a couple handfuls of beasties to torment? --StarChaser Tyger 12:56, 19 November 2011 (UTC)

You've been able to add experience since experience came out. Just change the XpTotal of the player entity (you might have to change XpLevel as well). –ultradude25 (T|C) at 13:11, 19 November 2011 (UTC)
I dunno how to do that. Doesn't seem to be in the unmodified game. But the experience potion works... --StarChaser Tyger 13:36, 11 January 2013 (UTC)
I believe you do not need experience to enchant or do any EXP related stuff in creative. --Anoymous712 13:41, 11 January 2013 (UTC)

If you have cheats turned on, just use the /xp [amount] [playername] command. Meeples10 11:59, 6 March 2013 (UTC)

Woah![]

I just downloaded 11w49a. I was playing a Super Hostile map, I hit the B key, and the game switched to Creative mode!

Could anyone else confirm this? TheOrangeSauce 23:16, 12 December 2011 (UTC)

False statement[]

I changed "Once a Singleplayer Creative Mode level is created, it can not be changed to a Survival world (or vice-versa) within the game, but it can be changed by editing the level.dat file inside the saves folder." to "Once a Singleplayer Creative Mode level is created, it can not be changed to a Survival world (or vice-versa) within the game." by removing "but it can be changed by editing the level.dat file inside the saves folder." since it is not possible to edit the level.dat file. It is not human readable. If there is some easy way of doing changing modes in single player, please post it. Daddii 12:15, 3 January 2012 (UTC)

It's perfectly human readable. What did you try to do, open it in a text editor? –ultradude25 (T|C) at 13:35, 3 January 2012 (UTC)

inv pic[]

Could someone add a picture of the creative inventory in the new snapshot?

Help...[]

I just downloaded the new snapshot, and if I make a new world with Cheats enabled in creative, it will spawn me on survival. Has anyone else had this problem? 98.222.143.242 20:21, 6 June 2012 (UTC) Never mind i figured it out

Creative bug[]

When you are using the survival inventory in the new creative menu in Minecraft 1.3.1, The crafting space does not accept blocks in it.

info about creative on xbox 360 edition[]

4j announced that when loading a level when the 1.8 update is added you can choose to play on survival or creative and can be switched when you exit and reload the level so if anyone knows if this should be added now or when it is released can they post it94.93.4.42 16:01, 15 August 2012 (UTC)

make mobs hostile[]

is it possible to make all mobs hostile like that of survival mode?66.115.83.24 03:02, 6 January 2013 (UTC)

1.8 beta all mobs that are hostle (I think) will attack, it happened to me

New way to Kill Someone in Creative Mode.[]

This may not be very easy to explain in the article, but you can kill someone in Creative Mode without /kill or the void. If you use MCedit to create a healing potion level 127, it will kill you when you drink it or splash it on you. I've included a video for specifics (If videos are not allowed on talk pages, feel free to remove it) If you want to say that /kill and the void are the only two ways to kill people in Creative Mode without external tools, that might be better.

Where on Minecraft.net is the Classic creative download? –Preceding unsigned comment was added by 108.48.61.111 (talk) 00:46, 9 December 2013(UTC). Please sign your posts with ~~~~

Go to https://minecraft.net/classic. You will see I want to play the old Minecraft Classic: singleplayer | multiplayer with those last two words being links. Kanegasi C 01:01, 9 December 2013 (UTC)

Update items/blocks/entities[]

VillagerGolem, Snow golem, baby mobs, end trees, Elytra and Candles also not available in creative inventory(172.68.46.37 20:37, 24 January 2017 (UTC)).

First, iron golemns, snow golem and baby mobs do not have their own spawn eggs, and candies do not exist at all. Secondly, please use "Add topic" to start discussions. The BlobsPaper 23:38, 24 January 2017 (UTC)

Difficulty levels?[]

I came to this page wondering how the difficulty levels affect creative mode. I can set Peaceful, Easy, Normal, or Hard. Do these do anything in creative mode, or do they apply only to survival? 108.65.79.31 21:25, 12 November 2017 (UTC)

See difficulty for the effects of the various difficulty levels. While players in creative mode cannot be harmed by mobs, all the effects (mob spawning, behavior, etc) still apply. -- Orthotopetalk 21:53, 12 November 2017 (UTC)

How are items ordered[]

Who on earth wrote this?[]

In the history section 0.0.19a, "Hotbar was Added, was displayed all blocks are implemented in left was removed" makes no sense. Lanxtot (talk) 10:03, 17 April 2019 (UTC)

This article needs to be cleaned up. Lately, I’ve been seeing that some edits I made are not showing up, so I’m requesting it in here. —98.230.115.82 19:14, 18 June 2020 (UTC)

Update the History section[]

As of 1.15, players can now EAT in creative mode. This should be added to that section. 111.88.15.165 16:37, 15 December 2019 (UTC)

Change the Creative inventory image[]

Please update it to look like the one in 1.15. 111.88.15.165 16:40, 15 December 2019 (UTC)

Should we remove the inventory section or not?[]

There is already an inventory section in Inventory#Java_Edition, so do we need to duplicate it here or just remove it. Maybe add a link to it will be fine? --SuperDragonXD1 (talk) 00:01, 11 May 2021 (UTC)

Light block[]

In the unobtainable items table (not in the creative inventory), the Light block should have its own thing that states that it can be obtained with Pick block IF you are holding a light block already. – Unsigned comment added by 73.187.234.217 (talk) at 18:56, 21 July 2022 (UTC). Thanks. This seems to only work in Java so I updated it as such. Since light blocks only show up when you are holding a light block (and therefore you couldn't be able to pick them when not there since, well, they're not there), I didn't go into detail or add a note about that for now. - AD OffKilter (talk) 15:51, 22 July 2022 (UTC)

Use of creative categories in-Wiki[]

Should we consider using creative categories within the wiki itself (such as in infoboxes, categories, templates, etc.). It's in-game information that I assume would do good being represented. I always assumed that they weren't used because they were relatively unsorted and at times even abitrary before, but now that they're being cleaned up into more concise categories and especially now that items and blocks can be put in more than one category, should we consider adding them once the update releases?
