Shokugeki no Soma (食戟のソーマ Shokugeni no Sōma?), or Food Wars!: Shokugeki no Soma, is a Japanese manga about cooking and culinary skills serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump, written by Tsukuda Yuto and illustrated by Shun Saeki/TOSH in collaboration with famous chef Morisaki Yuki.

The series ended with its 315th chapter in June 2019, however that same issue also announced that Food Wars would receive three additional chapters in Jump GIGA.[1] The three chapters were published with the subtitle Le Dessert in the three summer volumes of Jump GIGA 2019, and later included in the final volume of Food Wars.

Plot[]

Shokugeki no Soma tells the story of a boy named Yukihira Soma, whose dream is to become a full-time chef in his father's restaurant and surpass his father's culinary skills. But just as Soma graduates from middle school, his father, Yukihira Jouichiro, closes down the restaurant to cook in Europe. Although downtrodden, Soma's fighting spirit is rekindled by a challenge from Jouichiro which is to survive in an elite culinary school where only 10% of the students graduate. Can Soma survive?

Trivia[]

  • This manga is mostly likely inspired from the legendary Hong Kong actor/director Stephen Chow's movie, The God of Cookery and the same culinary manga entitled Chuka Ichiban in the '90s before the rise of anime in the 2000s.
