Samsung Announces New Odyssey G8 and G6 OLED Gaming Monitors; Brings AI Upscaling to the Series - Technology

Samsung has unveiled its 2024 lineup of Odyssey OLED gaming monitors and ViewFinity and Smart Monitors for India. The launch date and price for these monitors in India have been revealed. Samsung has also globally announced its new Odyssey OLED G8 monitor, which is the world’s first AI-powered gaming monitor, and features in-built upscaling technology.

Odyssey G6 gaming monitor

The Odyssey G6 gaming monitor has a 27-inch QHD display with 360Hz refresh rate and 0.03 ms response time. Samsung’s new burn-in prevention technology called Safeguard+ is part of the gaming monitor, and it works by applying a pulsating heat pipe to the monitor. Moreover, there is a cooling system in place to keep temperatures at bay.

The gaming monitor also auto-detects static images such as logos and taskbars, and reduces brightness in those areas, which is another measure to prevent screen burn-in. The gaming monitor has a peak brightness of 250 nits and supports FreeSync Premium Pro, which helps reduce screen tearing and lag during gaming.

Samsung adds AI upscaling to OLED G8

Samsung has added AI upscaling technology to its new OLED G8 gaming monitor. The OLED G8 is the first-ever AI-powered gaming monitor, and Samsung claims that the monitor is capable of upscaling lower-resolution content up to “nearly 4K”.

The gaming monitor’s upscaling mode only works when using the built-in Smart TV apps and Samsung Gaming Hub (when it is on PQ priority mode). Apart from the upscaling, the 32-inch OLED gaming monitor features the NQ8 AI Gen3 processor, which is also present in Samsung’s Neo QLED 8K TVs that were released earlier this year.

Other features of this gaming monitor include 4K resolution at 240Hz refresh rate, and it can deliver up to 250 nits of peak brightness. The monitor also supports FreeSync Premium Pro. Samsung has announced that the Odyssey OLED G8 is priced at $1,299.99, and the Indian pricing is yet to be revealed.
