Computex 2024: Nvidia Announces Project G-Assist AI Assistant for Gaming, New DLSS Games, RTX AI Laptops, and More

Computex 2024, one of the largest global computer expos (or trade shows), is just about to open to the public on June 4. However, in the lead-up to the event, major computing giants are set to share their latest developments and announcements in a series of pre-show keynotes. The first major one started with Nvidia showcasing its next-generation GPU architecture with the code name “Rubin”, which will be paired with a CPU code-named “Vera”. It calls the new architecture “Vera Rubin”, which will be the successor to the upcoming Blackwell architecture. This is related to the server side and has nothing to do with gaming.

However, we will see consumer versions of the Blackwell architecture in the rumoured GeForce RTX 5000 series GPUs. Other aspects showcased included interesting software technology demos like the Nvidia Project G-Assist. In addition, it announced work on a new guideline to standardise GPUs and PC cases to be Small Form Factor (SFF)-ready.

Nvidia also announced new DLSS games, RTX AI laptops, new G-Sync compatible monitors, RTX Video SDK expansion, RTX Remix updates and a new beta of the Nvidia app. It is also bringing RTX Video HDR to VLC along with a PC Game Pass reward for GeForce subscribers. Other announcements include ACE PCP NIMs and Windows Copilot Runtime. Here is everything you need to know about Nvidia's gaming-related announcements at Computex 2024.

SFF-ready guideline and new RTX-supported games

As part of the announcement regarding the SFF-Ready guideline, Nvidia revealed that it is “working in partnership with” case and GPU makers. The company noted that this guideline will apply to GeForce RTX 40 series GPUs, making the selection process easier when making a purchase. GPU makers will update the product listings to indicate if their product is among the “SFF-Ready Enthusiast GeForce Cards,” while case makers will use the term “Compatible with SFF-Ready Enthusiast GeForce Cards.”

As per the guideline, any SFF-Ready GPU needs to have a maximum height of 151mm (including the bend of the power cable), 304mm length, and 50mm (2.5 slots) depth. Nvidia has also shared the complete list of 36 GeForce RTX 40 series GPUs that comply with this guideline, with more coming soon.

The cases need to offer 154.5mm height from the motherboard (or riser PCB) on either side or the top of the case, depending on the orientation. Similar to the height, the length requirement for the cases is increased to 312mm while the depth remains the same. Nvidia has listed “a selection” of 23 SFF-compatible cases as part of the announcement.

Besides the SFF-Ready guideline, we learned that the upcoming Ubisoft game Star Wars Outlaws will support DLSS 3.5 and Ray Reconstruction at launch. Nvidia and Ubisoft also revealed a new trailer for the game, showcasing DLSS 3.5 technology.

In addition, Marvel Rivals will also get support for DLSS 3. Like Outlaws, Nvidia released a trailer showcasing support for DLSS 3 in Marvel Rivals.

Nvidia app beta update to bring AV1 recording

Nvidia also announced significant updates for its latest Nvidia App, which is available in Beta state for Windows users. As part of this update, the app will get the option to record videos in the newer AV1 codec (both in SDR and HDR).

Support for AV1 will allow gamers to record gameplay at 120 fps at an even higher quality compared to the H.264 codec. According to Nvidia, the AV1 codec offers 40% better “encoding efficiency,” resulting in higher-quality videos at the same file size.

Users will also get a new “one-click GPU performance tuning” that overclocks the GPU but doesn't impact its warranty. Other improvements include better app overlay and user experience. The company plans to bring DLSS controls, multi-monitor support for the RTX HDR feature, and an improved settings section for Display and Video.

PC Game Pass reward for GeForce Subscribers

The company is also offering a new exclusive offer to GeForce Now Premium subscribers through the beta Nvidia app. According to the announcement, Nvidia will offer free three months of PC Game Pass to GeForce Now Premium users. All you need to do to get this is open the Nvidia app and navigate to the “Redeem” tab.

Nvidia Project G-Assistant: AI assistant for gamers

Project G-Assistant was one of the highlights of the Nvidia keynote. As the title of this section suggests, it is an AI assistant that uses RTX hardware and software (including Large Language Models (LLMs)) to offer context-aware assistance to gamers in a range of things. These include helping players take the next steps inside a game, responding to queries, suggesting system tweaks to improve gaming performance, and more.

According to the available information, Project G-Assistant can automatically detect everything on your screen, including creatures, in-game inventory, items, UI elements, objectives, and more.

As part of the showcase of this technology demo, we also saw Project G-Assistant proactively detect system performance and suggest improvements. Currently, it only works with text and voice prompts, though Nvidia can improve it to add vision capabilities. Nvidia also teased the future possibilities of this app, as it works outside games in photo or video apps or even as an AI coach for gaming.

New RTX AI laptops and new G-Sync displays

Nvidia also hinted at new RTX AI PC laptops from multiple hardware makers, including Asus and MSI. This list includes Asus TUF Gaming A14 and A16, Zephyrus G16, and MSI Stealth A16 AI+. These AI PC laptops will feature “up to GeForce RTX 4070” mobile GPUs. The company also stated that these new laptops will get a “free” software update to “Copilot+ PC experiences”.

It also shared a list of new G-Sync compatible displays announced at Computex 2024. According to the list, 11 new displays were announced including the new Acer Predator X series of OLED gaming monitors, the 2024 LG C4 series of OLED TVs, and more.

RTX Remix improvements and RTX Video SDK expansion

Inching towards the end of Nvidia's gaming-centric announcements at Computex 2024, we saw some RTX Remix, RTX Video SDK, and RTX Video HDR updates. First up, Nvidia is set to open source the “RTX Remix Toolkit” later in June. This comes just a year after the company released the open-sourced RTX Remix Runtime. The toolkit will allow game modders to “streamline how assets are replaced and scenes are relit.”

Other additions include increasing the number of supported file formats for the asset ingestor. The company will also introduce “REST API” with RTX Remix. You can check all the information regarding what it means in the detailed announcement post.
