Wan Yang (Chinese: 万洋, Wàn Yáng; undercover alias include: Jamie Patrick, Maria Lopez, Stanley Derrick and Five-Claw-Dragon) was a Chinese spy operating in Point Lookout prior to the Great War,[1] mentioned in the Fallout 3 add-on Point Lookout.
Background[]
Active in the United States since at least the early 2060s, Yang first cropped up on the government's radar when she was arrested as a suspect during the investigation of the Niagara Sabotage in 2062, though she managed to escape during a transfer to Albany, New York and evade detection.[2] Years later, local community informants at Point Lookout in Maryland provided intelligence leading to her capture and arrest by the DIA.[3] where she was then transferred to the Turtledove Detention Camp.[3]
In the interrogation report, the officers at the detention camp noted that Yang "demonstrates remarkable resistance to interrogation, but yielded information concerning the Chinese intelligence community."[2] though the information she gave up was later marked as classified.[2]
Sometime later, a camp terminal entry reported Yang's death during interrogation, citing "method D interrogation" as the cause.[4] For the official records, the medical examiner listed her cause of death as natural and her remains were placed in locker TD-0181.[4] The self destruct codes pertaining to the SSN-37-1A, implanted in one of Yang's teeth, were not discovered during the autopsy, leaving them to be sealed in with her remains in the camp morgue for the next 200 years.[5]
Notes[]
- Wanted posters for Yang can be found in the lighthouse and in the People's Bank of Point Lookout. Interacting with it results in the Wanted Person: Yang, W. note added to the player character's inventory.
- Yang is also mentioned in terminal entries in the naval recruiting center and Turtledove Detention Camp as well as various holotapes relating to The Velvet Curtain.
- Her skeletal corpse can be found in the morgue of the detention camp as part of The Velvet Curtain.
- An alternate, decaying version of the corpse can be found sticking out of an open safe in the test cell "DLC04zTestMarkiepoo", which can only be accessed through console commands. This body is actually a container for the submarine's self-destruct codes.
Appearances[]
Wan Yang is mentioned in the Fallout 3 add-on Point Lookout.
Behind the scenes[]
The fictional Wan Yang shares a name with Point Lookout's lead artist Nate Purkeypile's wife. Nate asked the real-life Wan what her aliases would be if she was a spy, and these codenames were used as part of Wan Yang's background.[6]

Nathan Purkeypile: "Another cool tidbit about that quest is the dead spy in that quest, Wan Yang? That's actually my wife's name."
Kenneth Vigue: "Oh, no way!"
Nathan Purkeypile: "And the spy nicknames, I just asked her 'hey, if you were a spy, what would your spy nickname be?' And so we snuck that in."
