Red Menace is a Pip-Boy game tape in Fallout 4, which serves as propaganda against Chinese communist forces. It was published by Vault-Tec Game Studios in 2075.[1]

Characteristics[]

Selectable as a playable game on the Pip-Boy 3000 Mark IV, on the Inventory, Misc tab. The player must rescue Vault Girl from an anthropomorphic Chinese flag by dodging bombs and jumping barrels while climbing the stairs. A T-45 power armor suit can be acquired which makes Vault Boy immune to any form of damage, although at the sacrifice of not being able to climb ladders. It ends after 10 seconds.

Location[]

The game can be found on the Vault 111 recreational terminal in the cafeteria.

Notes[]

  • In pre-release screenshots of Fallout 4, the release year was originally 2053 and said "PRESS JUMP TO START" instead of "START GAME."[2]
  • The propaganda character is seen on an issue of the Capitol Post in the official Fallout 3 trailer, in an article about Chinese forces invading Alaska.
  • This is one of two holotape minigames in Fallout 4 (the other being Automatron) that does not come with a RobCo Fun magazine, but from a terminal.
  • In Fallout Shelter, it is possible to find a Mister Handy gloat about his high score in Red Menace.
  • With the Arcade Workshop pack, multiple copies of the holotape can be obtained by building and scrapping an arcade machine for Red Menace.

Behind the scenes[]

The gameplay of Red Menace closely resembles the famous 1981 Nintendo arcade game Donkey Kong.
