Armor Ace and the Power Patrol was an animated television program made by the Dynamite Animation Company before the Great War.

Background[]

The story of Armor Ace focused on the titular Armor Ace, an idealized American soldier in custom power armor who leads a military organization known as the Power Patrol. Secondary protagonists included Power Patrol members such as "Platinum," "Brickhouse" and the Kotlick siblings, "Icebreaker" and "Doubletap."

The organization's adventures pitted them against propagandized versions of the United States of America's enemies. These included the Red Vipers, a stand-in for the People's Liberation Army led by the Subjugator, the "Secretary of Oppression," and the Yukon Five, a group of "rogue robots" led by Commissioner Chaos representing Canadian partisans. These antagonists served as exaggerated propaganda for America's youth, pushing the idea that the Sino-American War and the United States annexation of Canada were heroic, moral endeavors.

In addition to the cartoon itself, large amounts of toys and merchandise were produced for the series, including at least two board games, The March of Freedom and Cold Steel.

A musical production based on Power Patrol was performed at Watoga High School, featuring the Yukon Five as antagonists.

Appearances[]

Armor Ace and the Power Patrol is mentioned only in Fallout 76, introduced in the One Wasteland For All update, and expanded upon in Locked & Loaded. Related items and paraphernalia appear in-game, and the show's official board game serves as the playable area for the second season in Fallout 76. The fourth season also features Cold Steel.

Behind the scenes[]

  • Armor Ace and the Power Patrol shares marked similarities with the 1983 TV series G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero. Both are action-based cartoons about a special United States military force (G.I. Joe / The Power Patrol) armed with laser weapons and high-tech vehicles, fighting a villainous snake-themed organization (Cobra / The Red Vipers) whose leader wears a reflective silver mask (Cobra Commander / The Subjugator).
  • The Armor Ace and the Power Patrol backpack flairs based on Armor Ace, Platinum, and Brickhouse share significant design similarities with 1980s action figures, particularly the style of action figure used by the G.I. Joe franchise at the time.
