You're here about the thefts, right? Look, I already told Sergeant Gavil everything I know.

Initiate D. Clarke (registration CL-312I) is a soldier of the Brotherhood of Steel, serving as a member of the logistics division under Knight Sergeant Gavil at Boston Airport in the Commonwealth in Fallout 4.

Background[]

Initiate Clarke joined the Brotherhood of Steel roughly the same time as Knight Lucia in the Capital Wasteland. The two were part of the Brotherhood for at least two years prior to 2287 and considered the other a friend. However, shortly after the Brotherhood offensive to take Boston Airport following the arrival of the Prydwen in the Commonwealth, Clarke started to become more reclusive and distant, even adopting strange habits, such as searching through Lucia's personal belongings behind her back. He was later assigned to logistics in the airport hangars under Knight Sergeant Gavil alongside Lucia. Around the same time, supplies, specifically food, were being reported as missing without reason.[1]

Unbeknownst to everyone, even Lucia, Clarke himself was the one taking the food crates, secreting them away into an area deep within the Boston Airport ruins where he had several surviving feral ghouls penned as part of an attempt to not only prevent the ferals from escaping and attacking the Brotherhood, but also to hopefully stir up some part of their long-lost humanity through compassion.[2] The battle to take the airport, as he viewed it, led to the mass slaughter of those who were once human beings, which caused Clarke no end of depressive grief as he alone was responsible for many of their deaths, and it reminded him of a non-feral ghoul he had befriended sometime in the past.[3]

Effects of player's actions[]

  • Clarke will not spawn in the airport until Duty or Dishonor is triggered by talking to Kells.
  • If Clarke is told to flee, and then the Sole Survivor destroys the Prydwen later in the main quest, Clarke can be found in the Boston Airport hangar. If he is talked to, he will only respond by nervously saying, "I can do this. I can do this."
  • If Clarke is told to flee, he may be found at a later time during a random encounter where he will then be accompanied by several feral ghouls. These ferals are hostile to the player character, and if they are killed (even by an NPC), Clarke will be angry with the player character for their deaths. Clarke may try to initiate conversation while still in combat with the remaining ferals.
  • If Clarke is told to turn himself in to the Brotherhood, he may be found inside a key-locked cell at the Cambridge Police Station. If the player character sides with the Railroad, Clarke can be set free during Precipice of War.
  • If the player convinces Clarke that they will keep his secret and successfully lies to Captain Kells about the thefts, after Blind Betrayal they may meet Initiate Clarke on the Prydwen flight deck, where he will tell them that he is going to become a knight soon.
  • If Initiate Clarke remains in the Brotherhood, he will appear alongside Lucia when escorting Liberty Prime during Ad Victoriam.
