From ú- (“nominalizing prefix”) + zó (“to dance”). Compare with Yoruba ujó, ijó, uzó, Igala ídó,. Proposed to be derived from Proto-Yoruba *ú-jó, *í-jó from Proto-Edekiri *ú-jó, *í-jó.
