Members of the House of Temenggong of Johor traced their descent back to Temenggong Daeng Ibrahim–who in turn was also descended from a family of Temenggongs who dominated the politics of the Johor-Riau empire. Sultan Abu Bakar, the 21st Sultan of Johor and the 1st Sultan of Modern Johor, was the founding patriarch of this house. The current Sultan is Sultan Ibrahim Ismail of Johor.
