Non Car Enthusiast Review. Online Only. Microtransactions/Artificial Grind
First thing to note is that this game is online only even on single player. Something to keep in mind if you have bandwidth caps, or really slow/no internet. When there is server maintenance, you cannot play. Game will give you pop up notification when there’s one coming up (you can play quick races, but won’t save your progress)If you purchase PS4 version, upgrade to PS5 version is not free. It costs $10 This review is from a non-car enthusiasts perspective. For me, cars are just a mode of transportation. If you put me in a random parking lot, point at a random car, and ask me what the car’s brand, year and model. I couldn’t tell you. I don’t have a wheel controller, only used standard PS5 controllerThis game is a realistic driving simulator. Only drive on race tracks. Don’t expect to jump off ramps, bumping/ramming into other cars all the time, or drive through large mud puddles. If you want a more acrady but somewhat realistic diving sim I’d play Forza Horizon 5.Beautiful game. Best graphics on the PS5 in terms of the cars and what’s on the track (background graphics are not as good, but still excellent to look at) especially in photo mode where you can see excellent detail. Great game to show off PS5 graphical power when guests come overOver 400 cars to unlock. Most look very similar (or at least to me).Game is catered towards car enthusiasts and those who want to learn. Always giving you facts and history on cars like it’s a digital car museum. Very dense with information. There’s commentary about every single car from the actual car’s designer with the story behind the car (from it’s history and personal story about it from others). No voice acting/voice overs which is disappointing. All cars plays and handles differently and have their own distinct motor sounds. When you upgrade your car you feel the difference, just not the change in speed. Some races will have car restrictionsYou do have to do maintenance on your car over timeTraining mode is really good. Teaches you when to break, and how to maneuver around corners and at what time. There’s also a car photography edit mode tutorial.Haptic feedback and adaptive triggers are really good on the PS5 controller. Best since Astro Playroom DemoLoading times are not instant. Must wait around 5-10secs. Way better than past GT games where you have to wait 30 secs to 1 minute plus per raceTakes a while to unlock modes in the game like mission mode, sport mode, and online multi-player. Took me a few hours to unlock multiplayerWhen playing online with friends/family; you can’t play any car or track. Only can play cars you unlocked, and tracks both unlocked.Microtransactions are really bad. Cost up to $40 per car. Most individual cars are $20-$30, but you have to buy in-game currency packs which are in set increments and don't match actual purchase price of the car (must buy more in-game money than you need), so you must buy multiple pack if you want to purchase the car outright. Some parts for cars cost more than some cars themselves. Artificial grind for those who don’t pay up, and some cars are limited time buy and sold in a cycle. Every time you earn in-game money, they always show an option to buy more with real world money which is really annoying.$40 car = 25 hour grind on the most rewarded trackOverall, great driving sim. The unlock system and online only can be a real drag

The game is great. Cars feel fun and responsive, lots of returning events like license tests and missions, beautiful graphics. Surprisingly, I've spent more time photographing cars than I have in any other GT game. It should be noted this game requires an online connection to play (even single player), which I think is a pretty poor design choice but overall it hasn't disrupted my gaming experience too much. They're rolling out updates to fix the in-game economy and add more content so I highly recommend picking up a copy if you're interested.

We did struggle to have the disc download for a day or two, but not sure if that's a disc or PS5 issue. Once downloaded, it's amazing and we spent all weekend playing. It's fairly easy to get through the first 9 menus, but pretty soon will need to turn off all driving assistance (use Expert, not Beginner or Intermediate).
The greatest thing is the graphics. They're amazing and make the game so much more. It loads fast too, which is a plus.

This is how Gran Turismo is supposed to be! No more "Prologues" or "Sport" versions that feel more like expensive demos. Gran Turismo 7 brings me back to how the original GT1 and 2 were. Lots of variety in racing modes, tons of cars to collect, and many different challenge-type scenarios to keep the game exciting. The graphics are incredible, on my 4k HDR I can see so much detail, it's easily to get caught up just watching the cars pass by. I don't recall ever noticing the texture of the paint on a brake caliper before on any other racing game I've played over the years!

The only reason why I don't give it 5 stars is because for some stupid reason (yes, stupid) the team behind Gran Turismo made the game so that it requires a constant Internet connection just to play! If for some reason you lose Internet access temporarily, then you can't do anything except some boring and utterly pointless oval race over and over. I don't know why the makers of Gran Turismo 7 couldn't figure out a simple offline progression save. Besides that though, if you were worried that this might be another "Sport" it's not - Gran Turismo 7 is a real Gran Turismo entry 100%!

Can’t give a lengthy review but I am a 61 year old dude that has been playing since GT3. This seems to me to be the best they have done so far. The only thing I miss is a test track where you can see how your car does after making modifications. I like the Cafe and the little mission menus. Yeah. Good way to spend an hour after dinner instead of watching inane TV shows.

I played the original couple of GT Games and then moved more to the Forza Series on XBox. This game is my return to Gran Tourismo and it could not be better. The game is beautiful, has great controls (playable with the standard PS5 controller but next level with a gaming wheel) and it can be as shallow or deep as you want it to be.

Edit 2:
TLDR: This game is nothing more than gambling mechanics and artificial difficulty masquerading as a racing simulator in order to compensate for a lack of content, to force you into microtransactions, and/or to maintain their daily user base for their in-game sponsorships. Without sever connectivity, however, this game works exceedingly well as a paperweight.

After owning this game for a month, it is intensely frustrating to obtain cars as well as upgrades. The game creator said the in-game pricing is supposed to reflect real life... However, a simple search reveals that they have cherry-picked the highest price for any given car. Mind you, these are auction prices which are entirely circumstantial and do not translate to a video game. For instance, the pricing for a used DeLorean DMC-12 (an obscene 450,000 credits!) is seemingly based on the auction price for one that was on the actual set of "Back to the Future." If realism was the goal, the price should be around 40,000 to 80,000 credits. The whole game is a flagrant cash grab and the creator, Kazunori, is unashamed.

Here's a list of other things I loathe:
**Certain car upgrades can ONLY be obtained from loot boxes, such as final stage engine and weight reduction upgrades as well as the carbon fiber drive shaft upgrade.**
**Upgrades obtained by loot boxes are tied to a random car that you may or may not own.**
**No ability to sell cars nor any useless upgrades.**
**The only way to purchase certain cars is to obtain an "invitation" from a loot box, which expires after a week or so and you lose the opportunity to purchase the car until you reobtain an invitation from another loot box.**
**As far as I know, loot boxes are only obtainable from Cafe missions and/or driving 26.2 miles in game per day (which takes 10 to 20 minutes a day on most tracks).**
**There are 5 different tiers of loot boxes, higher tiers have "better" prizes but regardless of tier, the odds are highly skewed to lesser prizes.**
**The odds of getting a higher tier loot boxes is also skewed much lower.**
**Tire dynamics are exaggerated and unphysical, especially in rain.**
**Performance points (PP) are almost arbitrary, certain cars can outperform cars at the same PP in every metric.**
**Most races have a staggered start, where you always start last, the best competitor cars start at the front, and the time gap between you and the lead car is around 30-45 seconds.**
**If realistic pricing was the goal, racing tires would not cost as much as some entry level cars.**
**So far, fully upgrading a car can cost 150,000-500,000 credits.**
**Reverting certain upgrades to stock costs significantly more than the original vehicle price.**
**Camshafts are considered a permanent upgrade for whatever reason.**
**There is a limit to the amount of credits you can earn by racing, but no limit for the credits purchased through microtransactions.**
**The bad outweighs the good for me.**

Edit 1:
Servers have been down for over 24 hours bringing my review down to 1 star.

Original review:
Gran Turismo 5 and 6 were my some of my all time favorite games, but I skipped GT Sport due to the lack of features and server dependency. With it being nearly 10 years since having a true Gran Turismo game, I caved and bought GT7 at launch.

The game is mostly great when it works, and while it works a lot of the time, today it doesn't. Their servers are experiencing prolonged server maintenance.

Now, I realize just how horrible the game is when it cannot connect to their servers. The game becomes less than a demo. You lose access to all single player features, other than a limited arcade mode and some music themed time trials.

While Polyphony has a good track record of maintaining their servers long term, once they stop, the game is bricked. People should realize "Network connection required" transcends just having internet access. You're 100% dependent, not just on the game developer's game servers being operational, but also on Sony's networking servers.

Networking issues aside, I'm not a fan of the economy in the game. It seems inflation has made its way even into virtual worlds. Be prepared to grind.

In summary, I think I've finally found a game worse or at least on par with 2K, both in economy and DRM!

GT has had a massive following for years. While I’m only a couple hours in on this latest release it has not disappointed. Beautiful scenes and wonderfully detailed cars. The familiarity I love with all kinds of new tweaks. Love the customization aspect and that their are multiple ways to play. Only wish is that their were the most modern cars available.

Why should you buy the day one edition if you can not have the day one edition adds on!?
Not worth the money!
