Former NFL tight end Rob Gronkowski believes LeBron James would've had a fruitful football career if the NBA legend decided to switch sports.

"LeBron would have been an absolute monster on the football field," Gronkowski said during an appearance on the Games With Names podcast. "I can kind of see him being the hybrid 'F' tight end."

The former New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers star explained that he wouldn't expect James to handle all the blocking duties of a tight end, but the 6'8", 265-pound power forward would've been able to make a massive impact in the passing attack.

"I see him just blocking the linebackers, blocking the safeties when needed, but also just dominating in the pass game. He's a freak of an athlete," Gronkowski said. "I feel like I really wish he tried out for the NFL."

There was once a chance that Gronkowski's wish could have come to fruition. James revealed that during the NBA lockout in 2011, he received try-out offers from the Dallas Cowboys and Seattle Seahawks.

The 39-year-old, who played football in high school before pursuing a basketball career, said, "I always think about it," referring to a potential football career.

"I was hoping to see that happen," Gronkowski said. "I just wanted to see his athleticism translate to the football field because I've seen his high school highlights, the guy's just an absolute beast."
