    Semifinal: England 2, Netherlands 1

Major tournaments can create some unlikely heroes and that was the case Wednesday when Ollie Watkins sent England into the final.

The Aston Villa striker, who entered as an 81st-minute substitute for Harry Kane, took advantage of a fatigued Dutch defense when he opened some space on Stefan de Vrij and fired a shot inside the far post in the first minute of second-half stoppage time.

That capped off an engaging semifinal, one in which both squads were within inches of securing what would've been a go-ahead goal. No moment was closer than when Denzel Dumfries cleared Phil Foden's shot off the line in the first half.

England's victory means Xavi Simons' stunning opener will be lost to history. The Dutch midfielder unloaded from just outside of the 18-yard box in the seventh minute to put the Oranje ahead.

Harry Kane equalized from the penalty spot in the 18th minute after an official review found Dumfries fouled the Bayern Munich striker.

England coach Gareth Southgate received plenty of criticism following the Three Lions' listless performance in the group stage. Now, Euro 2024 could be his ultimate validation if they go on to win the whole thing.

    Semifinal: Spain 2, France 1

A battle of two of the top powerhouses in the world produced early fireworks and a tense finish that culminated with a 2-1 win for Spain over France, which entered the 2024 UEFA Euro as the favorite to win it all.

Things were going well for France at the start when Randal Kolo Muani found the back of the net in the eighth minute. However, Spain's Lamine Yamal tied things up in the 21st minute, becoming the youngest player ever to score in a Euro match at 16 years old. Dani Olmo gave the team a 2-1 advantage just four minutes later after firing a shot that ricocheted off a French player for an own goal.

That goal seemed to energize Oranje, as they amped up the pressure and went ahead by a 2-1 score in the 76th minute.

The go-ahead goal was initially credited to forward Cody Gakpo, but it was later determined that Turkey's Mert Müldür put it in the net for an own goal:

    Group E: Romania 1, Slovakia 1

    Group E: Ukraine 0, Belgium 0

Group E concluded with a pair of ties that spelled doom for Ukraine. Romania and Slovakia each clinched spots in the knockout stage with a 1-1 tie. Ondrej Duda got Slovakia on the board in the 24th minute, but Razvan Marin answered for Romania with a penalty kick in the 37th minute. Slovakia will make it through as a third-place team.

Ukraine wasn't as fortunate, as it couldn't break through against an experienced Belgium squad. Ukraine stayed on the attack throughout stoppage time until the final whistle, but Belgium was able to preserve the tie. Belgium advanced thanks to having a greater point differential in the group stage.

    Group F: Georgia 2, Portugal 0

    Group F: Turkey 2, Czechia 1

Georgia earned its biggest win in its country's football history with a monumental 2-0 upset over Portugal to advance to the knockout stage in its first-ever appearance in the UEFA Euro. Georgia is the third debuting nation ever to make it to the Round of 16.

It was clear that magic was in the air early on when Khvicha Kvaratskhelia gave Georgia the lead less than two minutes into the match. Georges Mikautadze followed with a penalty kick in the 57th minute, making him the leading scorer of the group stage with two goals and an assist. Georgia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili did an amazing job with five saves to preserve the shutout. Portugal had already wrapped up the Group F win, but Wednesday's result obviously didn't please Cristiano Ronaldo and company.

A stoppage-time goal by Cenk Tosun in the 94th minute gave Turkey a hard-fought 2-1 win to eliminate Czechia, which was playing with 10 players after Antonín Barák received a red card. After a scoreless first half, Hakan Çalhanoglu gave Turkey the lead in the 51st minute, but Tomás Soucek knotted things up in the 66th minute. Unfortunately, Czechia couldn't preserve the tie and is the odd one out of the Round of 16.

A wild game to start the day gave Austria supremacy in Group D with a 3-2 win over Netherlands. Luck appeared to be on Austria's side when it took a 1-0 lead off an own goal by the Netherlands in the sixth minute.

However, Cody Gakpo tied things up at the start of the second half. Romano Schmid gave Austria a 2-1 advantage in the 59th minute, but Memphis Depay followed with an equalizer in the 75th minute. Not to be deterred, Marcel Sabitzer found the back of the net on a left-footed shot in the 80th minute to give Austria the lead for good. Austria advanced to the knockout stage as the group winners. Despite the loss, the Netherlands also secured a spot in the Round of 16.

France, which was pegged as the favorite in Group D, made it through as the second-place team after finishing in a 1-1 tie against Poland. Kylian Mbappe, who was playing through a broken nose, gave France a lead on a penalty kick in the 56th minute. However, Robert Lewandowski answered with a penalty kick in the 79th minute to tie things up. It looked like Mbappe should've earned another penalty kick in stoppage time, but the referee chose not to call it and the game ended in a draw.

    Group C: Denmark 0, Serbia 0

Group C concluded with a pair of scoreless draws. Serbia's bid ended in heartbreaking fashion as it couldn't covert any of its chances against Denmark. England won the group by surviving against Slovenia, which also advanced to the knockout stage as a third-place team.

    Group A: Scotland 0, Hungary 1

    Group A: Switzerland 1, Germany 1

Late drama was the order of the day as play in Group A drew to a close.

Switzerland was poised to claim the group after Dan Ndoye put the Swiss ahead in the 28th minute. With three points, they would've finished ahead of host Germany. Niclas Füllkrug had other ideas, however, heading home an equalizer in the second minute of stoppage time in the second half.

In Sunday's other fixture, Hungary left it even later against Scotland. Kevin Csoboth got on the end of a low cross from Roland Sallai and slotted his right-footed finish into the net in the 10th minute of added time.

The three points mean Hungary still has a shot of advancing to the knockout stage as one of the top third-place finishers.
