The building's conditions are completely inadequate. I stayed here on a summer program for 2 weeks and while the program (not through GW) was very fun, staying in this building was not. I stayed here from late June to early July 2019.

I have stayed at several college campuses including UCLA and University of Michigan so I know the drill when it comes to college dorms. The dorms are outdated and require a PHYSICAL key (NOT a swipe card or code) to get into your room. The dorm itself was quite rundown and while I was there, the AC broke (it was the summer and extremely hot). Also another thing to note: this building is infested with mosquitoes and biting flies (as of early July 2019 which was when I was there). My roommates and I NEVER opened a single window, yet we'd wake up covered in mosquito bites. Then there were the biting flies, the maintenance people left the door do the downstairs rec room open and let in MANY biting flies. These bites are twice as big as mosquito bites (very swollen) and are itchy and actually painful.

These dorms have definitely seen better days. It would definitely do GW good to renovate this building or to tear it down and rebuild it! This is the WORST dorm I have stayed in.

      First to Review

I am truly honored to be the first to review the one and only Thurston Hall of The George Washington University. 1900 F street! I will never forget that address. Located 2 blocks from the Executive Building (Vice President's offices) and 3 blocks away from The White House... This infamous former hotel turned top 10 freshmen housing dorm in the nation is where I lived my freshman year of college! So surreal! Yet so real!

Co-Ed mixed floor dormitory. 9 floors of awesomeness makes this freshmen dorm one of America's biggest! Cafeteria downstairs. 7-11 attached to the side of the dorm as well.

Thurston Hall is perfectly tucked away in the far NE corner of GWU campus. The building directly across the street is the IMF (International Monetary Fund). The building adjacent is the World Bank. The top 20 ranked GWU law school is two blocks away. 5 minute walk to the Lincoln, Washington, Einstein monuments and the National Mall on Constitution. What an unbelievable and unreal and unforgettable experience!

If you are looking into coming to GW for undergrad... You would be stupid to live elsewhere, unless you are not a people person and want to live alone and away from the main scene. Always rated one of the best dorms In the country!
I think now you can maybe see why.

Upon our arrival to Washington DC we came to our dorm, Thurston Hall for refuge. the facilities were old and dirty. our trip began peacefully and with our group in positive spirits. we noticed a trend within the group of bloody noses and sore throats. also, we saw what appeared to be black mold building in our showers. we have almost confirmed the existence of black mold in our showers. do not come to this dorm unless you wish to be contaminated by the horrors of black mold. now our group has been traumatized and sickened.

I stayed here for a week in June and the towels they supplied us with were more like napkins (and they were stained). In addition, our electricity was broken on half of the room, so we had no light and also could not charge our devices. The air conditioning did not work at all and we tried to open the windows, but they can not stay open themselves or without sticking something underneath them. Our moderators informed the dorm halfway through the week, yet nothing was done and we were forced to adapt to the uncomfort for the remainder of the trip.

Thurston Hall was the absolute worst. I stayed here for three nights on the 7th floor for a group trip. The beds are crammed up against doors to closets. The furniture is damaged and extremely worn. The floors are torn up. The AC units do not work properly. But none of that is as bad as the bathroom. The bathroom had VISIBLE mold in several spots. The shower tubs were so grimey and dirty you had to wear flip flops. The shower rod, inside of the medicine cabinet and several fixtures were rusted completely through. The toilet piping was all visible. When you flushed the toilets, the water literally came out of the bowl, so even if you made sure you closed the lid before you flushed, water still hit the top of the lid and then trickled down outside of the bowl onto the floor. Disgusting, disgusting, disgusting.
