CT baseball players who are competing for collegiate teams, Summer 2024

Summer baseball in Connecticut is in full swing, with many players returning home from their respective colleges to play in a variety of collegiate summer baseball leagues.

Between the New England Collegiate Baseball League and Futures Collegiate Baseball League, there are five such teams in Connecticut. The Bristol Blues, Danbury Westerners and Mystic Schooners of the NECBL and the New Britain Bees and Norwich Sea Unicorns for the FCBL.

Here is a breakdown of some of the top Connecticut players playing for the state's summer baseball teams.

New England Collegiate Baseball League

In-state teams only. As of July 6, 2024.

Bristol Blues

Mac Burke, Dartmouth, Pitcher, Jr., Woodbridge (Amity): A Class LL All-State selection in 2021 as a junior for Amity, Burke has pitched in relief during his first two years at Dartmouth. He has appeared in five games so far this summer for Bristol.

Brian Dowling, Harvard, Pitcher, Jr., Avon (Avon Old Farms): Dowling helped lead Avon Old Farms to the inaugural Founder's League championship series in 2022. He made five starts last year for Harvard as a sophomore and has appeared in five games out of the bullpen for Bristol, so far. 

Chad Fedeli, Southern Connecticut State, Pitcher, Sr., Monroe (Masuk): The former Masuk athlete has appeared in seven games this Summer, pitching 10.2 innings while striking out 13.

Gavin Greger, Bryant, OF, Jr., Bristol (Avon Old Farms): Transferring to Bryant from UConn, Greger had a great first season that culminated in an America East All-Rookie selection. He became the every day center fielder and batted .252 (51-202) with 12 doubles, two homers, 24 RBI and 38 runs scored. 

Jack Kabel, Quinnipiac, Pitcher, Sr., East Haven (East Haven): Transferred to Quinnipiac from Nichols College last year and pitched 28.2 innings with 30 strikeouts. So far, he has appeared in five games this summer.

Nick Kane, Sacred Heart, Pitcher, Jr., West Hartford (Conard): The 2022 Conard graduate appeared in five games out of the bullpen for Sacred Heart University this past spring after pitching 33.2 in 13 appearances as a freshman the year before. This summer, he has appeared in five games to date.

Michael Lorenzetti, Iona, Pitcher, So., Bristol (Taft): The 2022 Founder's League Pitcher of the Year appeared in 14 games for Iona as a freshman and earned a starting role this past spring. He struck out 43 batters over 51.1 innings pitched. 

Ryan Oshinskie, Brown, Pitcher, So., Fairfield (Fairfield Prep): The two-time All-SCC selection out of Fairfield Prep, he made 16 appearances as a freshman at Brown this past spring, striking out 33 batters over 26.2 innings with two saves. So far this summer, he has a 1.50 ERA in six innings pitched. 

Mika Petersen, Brown, OF, Jr., Stamford (Westhill): Was a 2022 First Team All-FCIAC selection before heading to Brown, where he was immediately named First Team All-Ivy selection in 2023. This past spring he ranked third on the team with 42 hits. So far this summer he is batting .318 through 15 games.

Jaden Wywoda, Holy Cross, Pitcher, Jr., Milford (Jonathan Law): The two-time All-SCC selection out of Law made 16 total appearances on the mound with one start as a freshman in 2023 and worked himself into a starting role this past spring. He has only appeared in one game this summer to date.

Martin Zhang, Columbia, Pitcher, Jr., Orange (Amity): The former first team All-SCC selection has appeared in two games for Bristol this summer after pitching in six games out of the bullpen for Columbia this past spring.

Danbury Westerners

Matthew Bucciero, Fairfield, C, Jr., Ridgefield: A 2022 GameTimeCT  All-State first team selection hit .486 with a 1.568 OPS and eight home runs, two triples, five doubles, 41 runs, 27 RBIs and 16 stolen bases as a senior at Ridgefield. At Fairfield this past spring, Bucciero batted .308 with 15 home runs. 

Christopher Fidanza, Coastal Carolina, Pitcher, Jr., New Fairfield (New Fairfield): Has transferred to Coastal Carolina from George Mason after this past season. Features a fastball in the low-90s.

Trace Florio, Lafayette, Pitcher, Jr., Norwalk (Green Farms Academy): Appeared in 18 games as a freshman this spring for Lafayette after graduating high school as the FAA Most Valuable Pitcher. He has already pitched 18.2 innings for Danbury this summer.

Max Foster, Cornell, Pitcher, So., Bethel (Bethel): The two-time All-State selection out of Bethel made six relief appearances as a freshman at Cornell, throwing 4.2 innings. He has logged eight innings this summer in five appearances with a 2.25 ERA. 

Michael Iannazzo, Maryland, INF, So., Southport (Fairfield Prep): Played in 28 games and made 19 starts as a freshman this past spring. He batted .294 (20-for-68) with four doubles, a triple, a home run, and 11 RBIs. 

Jonny Lintell, St. Bonaventure, Pitcher, So., Stamford (Weston): The former All-State selection out of Weston had a 1.90 ERA as a senior. He pitched 22.2 innings over 10 appearances as a freshman at St. Bonaventure.

James Raidt, Duke, Pitcher, So., Stamford (King): Was ranked the No. 2 right-handed pitcher in the state of Connecticut by Perfect Game when he graduated from the King School and went to Duke, where he appeared in two games as a freshman.

Zack Ramppen, San Fransicso, C, So., Stamford (New Canaan): A former All-State selection out of New Canaan, Ramppen went to West Virginia as a freshman but transferred to San Francisco University where he hit .225 while appearing in 43 games this past season

Anthony Steele, Penn St., Pitcher, Sr., Shelton: Previously a two-way pitcher at Penn State, Steele transitioned into more of a primary role this past season, appearing in 26 games and compiling 34.2 innings pitched.

Mystic Schooners

Anthony DePino, Rhode Island, INF, Sr., Madison (Hand): Was a GameTimeCT All-State first team selection as he hit .400 with five home runs while posting the highest OPS in program history at 1.500 to lead Hand to its first state title. At URI, he was named to the 2022 ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Team and Collegiate Baseball's Freshman All-America team and in 2023 he was a NEIBA All-Star. This past season he led his team with 15 home runs. 

Dan Driscoll, Eastern Connecticut, Pitcher, Sr., Waterford: Was named fourth-team All-America and first-team all-region by D3baseball.com after the 2023 season and then transferred to Eastern Connecticut State from Mitchell College. This past spring he had a 4.55 in 59.1 innings pitched. 

Drew Kron, UConn, OF, Jr., Hebron (Xavier): The 2022 GameTimeCT All-State first team selection batted .410 with three home runs, 19 RBIs, 27 walks, 22 stolen bases and set the Xavier record for most runs scored in a season with 38. He appeared in 25 games for UConn as a sophomore.

Trystan Levesque, Rhode Island, Pitcher, Sr., Niantic (East Lyme): Only made two starts this past Spring before suffering a season ending injury, he was a NEIBA All-New England First Team in 2023 after posting a 4.01 ERA in 83 innings. So far this Summer he has a 0.81 ERA over 11 innings. 

Connor Podeszwa, Tufts, Pitcher, Jr., Waterford: Podeszwa was the 2021 Gatorade Player of the Year and a GameTimeCT First Team All-State selection out of Waterford. He has a 4.13 ERA over 139.1 innings pitched through three years at Tufts. 

Devin Wolff, UConn, Pitcher, So., Ellington (Kingswood Oxford): The 2023 Founders League Pitcher of the Year went 5-1 with a 1.31 ERA with 74 strikeouts in 41 innings as a senior at Kingswood Oxford and has yet to make his debut for UConn.

Futures Collegiate Baseball League

New Britain Bees

CJ Brito-Trinidad, Georgetown, INF/P, Sr., South Kent (South Kent): The two-way standout at Bowdoin University will head to Georgetown after batting .306 last year while posting a 0.00 ERA over four innings pitched last season. He is pitching and hitting for New Britain this summer.

Andrew Cutler, George Washington, Pitcher, So., Fairfield (Fairfield Prep): An All-SCC selection in 2023, Cutler appeared in 18 games, making one start this past spring as a freshman at George Washington where he posted a 5.35 ERA in 35.1 innings pitched. 

Christian Fagnant, Amherst, C, Sr., East Granby: After three years of college ball, Fagnant has a career .276 batting average with 10 home runs and 54 RBIs for Amherst. 

Gavin Lyons, Texas, Fr., Pitcher, Guilford (Hamden Hall): Lyons just finished his senior season at Hamden Hall, having helped his team to the FAA and NEPSAC championships. Lyons has appeared in two games this Summer as he prepares to head to Texas in the fall.

Alex Oppenheimer, Union, Pitcher, So., Westport (Staples): The two-time All-FCIAC selection appeared in 10 games for Union with six starts as a freshman this past Spring with a 4.88 ERA over 27.2 innings pitched.

Dylan Scudder, Eastern Connecticut, Pitcher, Jr., Simsbury: Had a 2.61 ERA over 38 innings pitched this past spring as a sophomore for Eastern Connecticut State. He currently has a 3.42 ERA over 23.2 innings pitched this summer for New Britain.

Ryan Scialabba, Central Connecticut, INF, Jr., Cheshire: In two years at St. Anselm, he had a career batting average of .296 with two home runs. He will play next year at Central Connecticut. 

Alex Slotter, Bryant, Pitcher, Sr., Ellington: Was named a Liberty League All-Conference honorable mention this past spring, starting 10 games for RIT. He will play next year at Bryant.  

James Tobin, Salve Regina, Pitcher, Fr., North Haven: Tobin has done well this summer, coming off his senior season at North Haven. He has a 2.25 ERA over 16 innings pitched in his first taste of college level ball.

Tanner Wall, Western New England, Pitcher, So., Brookfield: The former All-State selection and Class L state champion out of Brookfield had a 5.97 ERA over 37.2 innings pitched as a freshman this past spring. 

TJ Winn, Central Connecticut, Pitcher, So., Manchester (East Catholic): Led East Catholic to a perfect 25-0 season in 2021,  including the Class M State Championship having gone 9-0 with a 1.09 ERA and 69 strikeouts across 58 innings. He recently transferred from St. John's to Central Connecticut State.

Norwich Sea Unicorns

Hector Alejandro, UConn, Pitcher, Sr., Waterbury (Naugatuck): After missing the entire 2023 season due to injury, Alejandro returned to the mound for UConn this past season appearing in six games for the Huskies. 

Michael Belcher, Bryant, Pitcher, Fr., Beacon Falls (Woodland): In his final varsity start, Belcher threw a no-hitter in the Class M championship game and was named a GameTimeCT 1st Team All-State Selection. He went 10-0 with a 0.47 ERA and a 0.576 WHIP, allowing just four earned runs all season while setting school records in career innings (209.2), wins (29) and strikeouts (351).

Shaun Callahan, New Haven, OF, Jr., Newington: In two years at the University of New Haven, Callahan has hit .344 with three home runs, 43 RBIs and 44 runs scored.

Connor Lane, UConn, C, Fr., Old Saybrook: The 2024 GameTimeCT Player of the Year hit .509 with a .659 OBP, four home runs, 12 doubles, 27 runs, 16 stolen bases. He had 68 strikeouts in 33 innings with a 0.83 ERA and .139 batting average against while setting the school record for career home runs (15) and single season home runs in 2023 (9). He will head to UConn in the fall. 

AJ Soldra, NJIT, OF, So., Orange (Amity): Was named to the America East All-Rookie Team as a freshman this past spring after batting .345 with two home runs and 16 RBIs. This summer, he is hitting .379 with five doubles and four triples in 17 games. 

Aidan Whitten, Nichols, Pitcher, Jr., Mystic (St. Bernard): An All-ECC selection as a senior out of St. Bernard, Whitten earned a partial starting role this past spring as a sophomore at Nichols starting six games and making 12 appearances. He went 4-0 with a 2.27 ERA.
