Making Yourself Known
So You're Somebody, Eh?
Whether you've got a voice that's just dying to be heard, you're wielding some expert game knowledge that just needs to be shared with as many people as possible, or you're looking to share the awesome awesomeness that is you, the IGN community is a great place to be! Here are some tips on getting yourself out there.
First of all: love what you do!
There are a ton of outlets to start contributing in meaningful ways (see below!), but the most important thing is to love what you do. It sounds trite, but when you've got an obvious passion for what you're doing, that will shine through to your viewers/readers. And if the rest of us can tell how much you love something, chances are, we're feeling it, too.
Also Important: BE DIFFERENT!
Passion is important...duh!...but it's really difficult to get noticed if you're covering the same stuff everyone else is. We all love Final Fantasy, but I bet there's something awesome you're into that we don't know a single thing about! So if you wanna get noticed...be different! Here are some awesome examples of stuff that nobody else is doing but the All-Stars who did them:
Blog
The best way of publishing content on MyIGN is by writing blogs. You can discuss any type of subject in your blogs. Of course you're likely to gather more readers by having a relevant topic and writing about it properly. Also, it sounds trite, but think "different" - if you're writing about something that nobody else has covered, chances are, you're going to get some attention.
Participate
If you want others to read your content, it's best to read their content as well. Comment on other people's work and they're usually more inclined to do the same with you. Try finding a healthy balance of producing content and consuming it.
Promote
There's always a chance that people didn't notice you published a blog. In that case you can always try to promote your own work. The easiest way of promotion is by posting a link of your blog in a status update. You can give a short description of the blog and entice people to go read it. Don't overdo it though, try not to do more than one of these status updates per day. If people still don't leave comments, there's a chance they simply had nothing to say. It happens.
Another way of promotion is by actively going to other people to read your blogs. You can post a link on a user's wall and ask him to read your work. This is a more direct way of promotion and you should be careful with using this method. It's advisable to only message people you actually know would appreciate your work.
