She soon discovered that designing and teaching quilting internationally was her passion and Blossom Heart Quilts became the place for doing just that. After relearning how to use my sewing machine when Covid hit and we needed masks, I decided to see if I could learn quilting without taking a class. I made my first simple, small quilt by following YouTube videos but after that I wanted more short projects to learn different techniques. A friend recommended this book to me and it has been great. Each chapter has an introductory part where you learn how to do the technique on one block, and then a mini quilt project based on that technique (for instance, half-square triangles, flying geese, circles, English paper piecing, etc). The minis are generally around 2 feet x 2 feet (some a little bigger, some a little smaller). So far I've finished 4 of the minis out of this book and plan to finish at least 2 more. The projects are fun and manageable... easier than trying to tackle a large quilt before getting some basics down.

This book is great. Reads easy and teaches a variety of quilting to dos, eg: piecing. It’s a go to book and fun easy book. If your new to quilting it’s a must. I refer to her online all the time. I like her ideas. This is a good price also.

Ich hatte gehofft, hier einige neue Tipps zum Patchen kleiner Teile zu finden - weit gefehlt! Das "Mini" bezieht sich nicht auf die Größe der (wirklich einfachen) Blöcke, die mit durchschnittlich rd. 15 cm bzw. 6'' nicht als klein zu bezeichnen sind, sondern auf die geringe Anzahl der Blöcke. Lediglich Anleitungen für die vorgegebenen Quilts ohne grundsätzliche Erklärungen, die zu eigenen Entwürfen anregen. Einfachste Ausführung der Muster mit vielen unnötigen Nähten, keine Randgestaltung. "Meisterwerke" sind da leider nicht drin.

I liked the format of this book, because it focuses on building skills one block at a time, with small manageable projects that you could choose to adapt or expand as confidence grows. At the end there is a section with suggestions of sampler quilts to showcase all the techniques. The photography and styling were very appealing, and I could imagine any of these quilts hung as art works. Ideal for a confident beginner or perhaps an experienced quilter who wants to get out of a style rut. I've earmarked a couple of projects already.
