halanvaina on Mono Red Control/Mill (Premodern)

Look dude, I'm really trying my best here to make a somewhat competitive mono red deck that's not one of the three deck archetypes. It really feels that I'm never going to win you over with this deck. I did take out Avatar of Fury, but I know even with all of the attempts at mana reductions and technically ramp it's still going to be slow. There's no ritual effects since that's not in the card pool, and we all know mono red can't do land ramp. Mono red can't draw cards good either, yet I feel like your acting like there's infinity better options in the card pool. Instead, can you suggest new cards instead of saying every change I make doesn't matter and is way too slow? Mono red is a difficult color to work with outside of aggro. There is a couple control cards, like Stranglehold(which is not even in the card pool), but it's not much. I know you're trying to help, but at this point it feels irritating and not really helping. Also I'll admit that Kamahl, Pit Fighter is kind of a pet card. But I could switch it out with a different card.

I know that I could put Gamble in the deck, but I feel that the list is tight enough. What I find odd about your arguments is that you note the use of sac lands, yet say that using Feldons Cane is no use. The point of Devastating Dreams is to draw cards to use it well. You also say that opponents will typically never get to seven lands, yet say it will hurt me more somehow. It does damage to each creature, and makes the both of us sac ideally all of our lands. Its also two red, which doesn't mess with the mana curve much. There is also a combo with that card and Mogg Maniac, but i already know you're going to say its not significant enough to do anything since theres no winning with you. It really feels like I'm talking to a brick wall. I know it's a flawed deck and I'm trying to do my best with it. With no ritual effects for red, no ramp, no decent card draw most of the time, I'm doing what I can. But I don't see you helping much other than saying how the mana curve sucks (which I know and trying to fix, yet you don't like it anyway.)

With that many mountains Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle would be useful. Blood Moon good kind of mean.

Since this is a Homeward Path deck Humble Defector would be right at home.

Gamble this isn't a graveyard deck but a tutor is a tutor.

Hey man! As someone who's brewed this one alot, I'm telling you right now you need waaay more mana rocks. Literally like 10+ rocks, plus a few rituals. The fact that they also generate a token is incredible in practice. Here's a list of the ones I'd include on top of what you already have: Fellwar Stone, Talisman of Progress, Izzet Signet, Boros Signet, Azorius Signet, Springleaf Drum, Jeweled Amulet, Lotus Petal, Pyretic Ritual, Desperate Ritual, Seething Song & Battle Hymn.

Also just so you know, Mystical Tutor, Personal Tutor, Enlightened Tutor & Gamble are all super cheap right now due to recent reprints! Gotta get it while the getting is good, ya know?

A great combo here is Isochron Scepter + Dramatic Reversal, it generates infinite Spirit tokens on top of just being great individual utility pieces for the build outside of the combo!

Lots of great, cheap synergy pieces like Wild Research, Kindred Discovery, Opposition, Vicious Shadows, etc...

I'll stop rambling now, great Commander choice dude! Let me know how you feel about my mediocre suggestions lol.

Specifically, the ones in my deck that aren't legal are Blood Moon (WOT), Deathrite Shaman (RTR), and Gamble (SPG).

Ahh yes, Wizard tribal. Amazing. Here's some cards to tutor, draw & ramp your way to victory with:

Mystical Tutor, Personal Tutor, Solve the Equation, Gamble, Fervent Mastery & Vedalken AEthermage are worth considering as tutors here imo. Most of the other tutors in this color combo are Artifact tutors like Fabricate, Reshape & Reckless Handling...which I suppose could end up playing into a revamped strategy here as the deck develops, who knows?

For draw, Windfall, Wheel of Misfortune (& Wheel of Fortune if you're cut like that), Tolarian Winds, & Decaying Time Loop are all great with this commander. Cantrips like Ponder & Brainstorm should probably make the cut as well, it's hard to top that value for 1 mana.

As far as ramp, I always try to roll with at least 10 mana rocks, a handful of rituals & perhaps a few cost reducers when I'm within , depending on the your deck's mana curve. I know that sounds extreme, but I swear it makes your deck awesome, especially the more it develops. As the quality of each card goes up over time, consistent ramp becomes more and more important.

Also, some combo pieces to pair with Dualcaster Mage wouldn't hurt either. Twinflame, Heat Shimmer & Ghostly Flicker all work, the former 2 are definitely more synergistic with your current list though.

I could yap about various bangers for this commander like Bribery & Acquire all day, but I'll stop here unless you request more.

Lastly, a bit of bad news...Vadrik, Astral Archmage is the best commander for big X spells lol, he's insane. I might even say that he's the best one in that color combo in general.

Cheers!

You need more mana, dawg! Have you I'd recommend running both rocks and dorks here since the deck relies on relatively high costed creature cards. A few tutors like Gamble & Shared Summons could be great without breaking the bank as well. I'd also consider Sneak Attack as a value piece, it was just reprinted not too long ago & is super cheap right now! Cloudstone Curio too. I have other recs like Timeless Witness & Mindslicer too, but I'll stop here. Cheers!

Hmmm...okay here are my recs I guess:

Allosaurus Shepherd, Destiny Spinner, Vexing Shusher, Pyroblast, Red Elemental Blast, Veil of Summer, Silence, Orim's Chant, Abeyance, Bone Sabres, Conqueror's Flail, Gamble, Worldly Tutor, Enlightened Tutor, Defiler of Vigor, Bloom Tender...I highkey have a lot more, but I'll stop here for now. Let me know how these are sounding to you!

Cheers m8!

As someone who's been brewing/playing Inalla for some time now, I'd recommend that you consider includes like Spellseeker, Snapcaster Mage, Dualcaster Mage & Sea Gate Stormcaller.

I'd also recommend that you not run any trigger doubters outside of Naban, Dean of Iteration & Harmonic Prodigy. Paying more than 2 mana for that effect isn't worth it, especially when those options can be easily tutored up with Vedalken AEthermage & Step Through.

Also consider other value pieces that are dirt cheap at the time of this writing like Necropotence, Dark Confidant, Mystical Tutor, Gamble, Sneak Attack & Cloudstone Curio. You really don't want to miss any of these, they will go back up in price sooner than you think.

Check out my own list if you want: SPELLMANCER (INALLA)
