Plot summary[]
During the Carreras Incident, the junk dealer Ania Solo, a descendant of Han Solo, her companions, and the young Imperial Knight Jao Assam managed to save the Imperial Knight Yalta Val from being murdered by the rogue Sith Darth Wredd. Ania's actions has drawn her the attention of the leaders of the Galactic Federation Triumvirate. On Cadomai Prime, Darth Wredd hunts down and kills a member of the One Sith. His actions go against the contemporary Sith strategy of infiltrating key government and corporate positions in the Triumvirate. Darth Wredd's actions attract the attention of the Triumvirate leadership who decide to leave him alone since he is "helping" them by eliminating One Sith infiltrators.
Meanwhile, Ania and her companions are traveling with the grievously wounded Jao Assam in the assassin droid AG-37's freighter. While traveling in deep space, they are picked up by the Star Destroyer Animus. Ania and her companions are treated as guests by the Imperials for their role in rescuing Master Val in the Carreras system. Meanwhile, AG-37, who sustained serious damage during the Carreras Incident, is repaired by a pair of Imperial Navy engineers. The engineers praise the Mon Calamari engineer Sauk's workmanship which leads AG-37 to offer the impoverished Mon Calamari refugee a job aboard his ship as his personal engineer. After wishing Ania farewell, AG-37 and Sauk depart on their freighter for a supply run. While visiting an unidentified world, Sauk encounters another Mon Calamari refugee who informs Sauk of a resettlement program on Dac, the poisoned homeworld of the Mon Calamari, Quarren, and Whaladon species.
On the Animus, Master Val receives new orders from Antares Draco, the head of the Imperial Knights. Master Val is reassigned as the Head of the Imperial Knights Training Facility on Coruscant and tasked with finding new recruits. Meanwhile, Jao Assam receives a Force vision of the rogue Sith Darth Wredd attacking Empress Marasiah Fel. Disturbed, Jao relays his concerns to Master Val and expresses his desire to hunt down the rogue Sith. However, Master Val reminds the younger Knight that he is obliged to follow the Empress's orders: reassignment to Coruscant for the next cycle. Unhappy with the situation, Jao relays his concerns about Darth Wredd to Ania. After some discussion, the two decide to stop Darth Wredd. Heading to the hangar bay to find a transport, they encounter Master Val and a squad of stormtroopers.
