Bright Sun Hill, originally named the Jedi Hill Camp, was a hill on Dathomir near Redgill Lake. In 43.5 ABY, the conclave of the Raining Leaves Clan and the Broken Columns Clan was moved to the hill due to Nightsister attacks on the conclave.

Per Dathomiri tradition, the new camp, with its limited space, must be claimed and bear the standard of one faction; clan leaders Kaminne Sihn and Tasander Dest agreed with Grand Master–in–exile Luke Skywalker's advice that the hill should be claimed as Jedi territory in order to prevent conflicts between their two clans, with Jedi ally Dyon Stadd quickly creating a standard resembling the Alliance Starbird, crossed over by two Jedi lightsabers. A member of each clan must also bear witness—Jedi Ben Skywalker chose Halliava Vurse and Drola Kinn of the Raining Leaves and Broken Columns, respectively. The trio thus joined Luke Skywalker and Dyon Stadd to the hill.

Midway through claiming the hill, Luke Skywalker realized that by Galactic Alliance decree, he was prevented from setting foot on any Jedi territory, and so asked Ben to claim the hilltop instead while he himself would head to the halfway point of the hill. However, Dathomiri custom also decreed that only the faction with the greater claim could set down the standard, and so Ben enlisted Stadd, a former Jedi candidate, as a consultant of the Order for five credits. They then set up the standard and claimed the hill, with Ben Skywalker declaring it "Camp Jedi."

Shortly after the Dathomiri set up camp on the hill, it was attacked by Nightsisters, who utilized several rancors that charged up the hill. Although each wave of assaults was repelled to significant casualties for the defenders, they adapted tactics mirroring those used in naval combat to help coordinate members of both clans, turning the tide of the battle against the Nightsisters. Luke Skywalker was nearly overwhelmed by them near the bottom of the hill, which bordered a forest in which the Nightsisters hid, but was saved by the Sith Tribe member Vestara Khai, who was also a part of the Raining Leaves. In the aftermath of successfully deploying the new strategy, morale improved among the defenders, with Stadd jesting that their "Star Destroyer," Hilltop, held up well. The two clans then united to form the Bright Sun Clan, with their standard replacing the Jedi's and the hill renamed Bright Sun Hill.

The surviving Nightsisters retreated and, as per a plan agreed between Khai and Halliava Vurse—who disagreed with the union of the clans and was secretly a Nightsister—gathered alongside the rest of their forces at a landing meadow nearby, under Dresdema's leadership. They sought to cooperate with the incoming Sith Tribe, but were instead assailed by the Sith, who slayed all of their rancors and took the remainder of the sisters prisoners before leaving the scene, as they proved no match for the oncoming Jedi. The Bright Sun Clan arrived in the aftermath, learning of Khai and Halliava Vurse's treachery but grateful for the Jedi's intervention in warding off the Sith; Kaminne Sihn presented Ben Skywalker the deed to the Bright Sun Hill, intended for the Jedi Order, as she wished that they would establish a new school amidst their territory.
