Here’s why Jeremy Renner turned down a Mission: Impossible return

MIA.

Jeremy Renner, who played William Brandt in the Mission: Impossible movies, has now revealed why he turned down the opportunity to return to the franchise. Renner was offered a role in Mission: Impossible – Fallout but bowed out because he did not agree with the direction his character in the film was heading towards.

Renner was recently on the Happy, Sad, Confused Podcast where he was asked to explain why Brandt was missing in Mission: Impossible – Fallout, which came out back in 2018. He said that he declined to return because his character was going to be killed off in the movie.

“If you’re going to do this, and you’re going to use my character, you’re going to do it right,” he said.

The actor further explained, “I remember they tried to bring me over[seas] for a week so they could kill my character, and I was like, ‘No, you don’t get to do that. You’re not going to drag me over there and just kill my character,’ like get out of here!”

Renner said he yelled at the director, telling him, “Dude, you’re not going to do this to me like that; you’re not going to do me wrong.”

The actor also revealed that he had left the franchise because he wanted to focus on his responsibilities as a father, and it was hard to spend time with the family since the filming took place overseas.

While this sounds like Renner is not going to make a return to the franchise, all hope is not lost. He said during the podcast that he is open to returning as William Brandt. However, it is clear that the role must have significance for Renner to consider it.
