Final Fantasy XVI (FF16) Griffin location and Hunt guide

Birds of a feather

Hunt targets are useful to take down in Final Fantasy XVI. Some lead you to some nice crafting components or a healthy dose of experience. And in the case of the Griffin in Final Fantasy XVI, it helps push along an important side quest.

The Griffin becomes a Hunt target as part of the quest “Blacksmith’s Blues I”, which you can run into roughly a quarter or so of the way into Final Fantasy XVI. After learning the artisan you’re looking for is hunting a Griffin, Clive figures the best way to make a connection is to stumble upon the same target and see if the crafter shows up.

Griffin location & directions in Final Fantasy XVI (FF16)

As the Hunt Board description notes, the Griffin Dozmare is located in Caer Norvent, near the West Gate. Specifically, the description mentions that the group was on the trail from Losting to Caer Norvent; retrace the steps you took to get to Caer Norvent from Lostwing in a previous story quest, and you’ll find a big clearing.

The Griffin sits on the castle wall, presiding over the field. Once you cross the bridge and enter its arena, you’ll start the fight with Dozmare.

Final Fantasy XVI (FF16) Griffin Hunt tips & tricks

Taking down Dozmare can be a bit tricky if you haven’t fought a Griffin in Final Fantasy XVI yet. Many of its up-close, physical attacks should be easy to either dodge or counter with Titan’s skills.

There are a few twists, though. Dozmare can kick up wind before some attacks, creating a short window to dodge the incoming hit. Watch for incoming hits when dust whips around Clive.

The Noble Dive can also catch you unaware, as you can see in the screenshot above. It’s a ground-pound move, but also creates a ground AoE. You’ll need to either jump or dodge over it. These can be tricky moves if you’re a bit more used to just dashing-and-slashing. It’s good practice for later bosses.

Once you’ve slain the Griffin, you’ll get a slew of rewards and also be able to finish out the Blacksmith’s Blues I quest.
