FFXIV x FFXVI Collab, The Path Infernal: How to get the Torgal mount, minion, and other rewards

Torgal really is the best boy

The Path Infernal crossover event between Final Fantasy XIV and Final Fantasy XVI was announced way back in July of 2023 during the Las Vegas FanFest, so it’s been a long time coming. But the wait is finally over and we can now team up with Clive in order to bring back his memories.

As of April 1, the FF16 crossover event has begun, lasting until May 8, 2024. If you’ve not managed to play Final Fantasy XVI just yet (say, you’re very impatiently waiting for the game to come to PC) then some parts of this quest line may go completely over your head. Not that it matters, the event quests are enjoyable and challenging, which means that the “what does that even mean?” moments don’t get in the way often.

The last quest in this three-chain FF14 and FF16 crossover questline comes with a Torgal minion, Torgal mount, and Clive’s signature outfit. Other FFXIV rewards, like Clive’s Card and FF16 orchestrion tracks, are available at the Gold Saucer for a hefty sum of MGP. It’s one of two ongoing events in FFXIV right now calling for those sweet, sweet Manderville Gold Saucer Points — the other being the Yo-kai Watch event.

How to complete A Land on Fire (FF14 x FF16)

To begin the FF14 and FF16 crossover event, head to Ul’dah and find the Neophyte Adventurer (X:8.8, Y:9.8). Talking to him will allow you to pick up A Land on Fire, the first quest of the crossover event.

Once the ‘begoggled man’ reveals himself to be none other than the Wandering Minstrel, he’ll tell you that he’s had a dream involving a ‘burning land’ before asking for your opinion as to where this land may be. The correct answer here is the Burning Wall in Thanalan.

After he heads off, teleport to Camp Drybone and make your way to the Burning Wall, talking to Wandering Minstrel again at (X:28.3, Y:24.5) before using the spyglass at the nearby designated location.

Once you enter the Spyglass interface, there’s only one thing for you to find. Clive can be found lying unconscious on the floor at the very bottom of the area. Zoom in on him and select him to exit the spyglass interface and trigger a cutscene.

After a cutscene, you’ll reappear in Ul’dah and after waiting at the designated location, speak to Clive once more to end this quest, then again to pick up the next one.

After talking to Clive, it’s decided that he must be taken to Gridania in order to aid him in recovering his lost memories. You’ll be instantly transported to the Airship Landing in Ul’dah and after another cutscene with Clive, you’ll travel to Gridania.

Once in Gridania, speak to Clive again and have him accompany you throughout the city state in order to jog his memory, speaking to him in the following locations:

  • Carline Canopy
  • Chocobokeep
  • Aetheryte Plaza
  • The Adders Nest

Once you reach The Adders Nest, Clive will overhear talk of Garuda, and some memories, albeit hazy ones, will unlock for him. After a cutscene, you’ll emerge already at Nophica’s Altar and all you have to do now is talk to the Serpent Scout, who will grant you access to the Lotus Stand for a chat with Kan-E-Senna.

Once this is done, speak with Clive to end this FF14 and FF16 crossover quest and then once more to pick up the next one.

How to complete The Path Infernal (FF14 x FF16)

Here are the rewards for completing The Path Infernal quest:

  • Metian Attire Coffer
    • Contains Metian Vest, Mettian Gauntlets, Metian Chausses, Metian Sollorets
  • Torgal Whistle
    • Allows you to summon the likeness off Torgal and use it as a mount
  • Torgal Pup
    • A minion in the form of a wolf pup

Having spoken to Clive he runs off on his own, head to Apkallu Falls to find him and talk to him again. This will begin a solo instance involving a rather long and sometimes challenging battle with Ifrit as FFXIV has never seen him before.

During this fight, you’ll gain access to three special abilities:

  • Rising Flames
    • Charge the foe and deal high damage
  • Dodge
    • Used to dodge unavoidable incoming attacks
  • Precision Strike
    • Unlocks upon a successfully executed Dodge, allowing you to jump back in and deal high damage

It’s worth noting that Dodge does not allow you to withstand all AOEs, you do still need to avoid a fair few of them and Dodge will only work if the countdown appears leading up to it. If there is a safe space within the arena, you should definitely head there.

Once you’ve completed this battle, head to Camp Drybone and then make your way once again to the Burning Wall. Talk to the Wandering Minstrel (X:30.1, Y:24.5) and then speak to Clive beside him. Be ready to set off very quickly, because now we’re letting Torgal lead us and he really does set off at a sprint.

Once you’ve chased Torgal the length of the Burning Wall, speak to Clive for the final time and send him back to his own world, then speak to the Wandering Minstrel after the cutscene to get your hands on this event’s sweet rewards.
