Dragon's Dogma Sven and The Ornate Box quest

Dragon’s Dogma 2: Should you give the boy 1000G for The Ornate Box?

A worthwhile investment.

One of the first side quests you will encounter in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is a boy in Vernworth looking for 1,000G so he can purchase a green Ornate Box from a merchant. But should you give the boy the 1,000G he needs for The Ornate Box? Here’s how to complete the Ornate Box quest and its rewards.

Should you give the boy 1000G to buy The Ornate Box?

Yes, you should give the boy the 1,000G to buy the Ornate Box and complete the quest. However, if you have finished the quest Medicament Predicament, you can tell him “no “Methinks not” and then buy the Ornate Box directly from the vendor for a 20% discount and then give it to the boy. This will save you 200G and still progress the quest and get you the rewards.

After a couple of days have passed, you can return to the fountain in the center or Vernworth and find the boy, named Sven, sitting nearby. Sven is actually an important character in Dragon’s Dogma 2 as he’s the son of the current Regent. If you speak to Sven, he will pay you back some recompense for the loan you gave him for The Ornate Box, as well as tell you a bit about his unhappiness with his life serving his mother the Regent.

Simply repeat the process of waiting a few days and then returning to Sven at the fountain to get a little more of Sven’s backstory and more of the money he owes you. Just make sure you complete this quest before completing the Feast of Deception main quest for Brant, as it will discontinue The Ornate Box quest regardless of your progress on it.

All Sven recompense rewards for The Ornate Box quest

Each time you speak to Sven, he will pay you back a little bit of what he owes you for loaning him the money for The Ornate Box. He’ll also give you a handful of other rewards that make this quest worthwhile. Here’s what Sven will repay you each time:

  • First Encounter: 200 G and a Jasper
  • Second Encounter: 300 G and the Ring of Accrual
  • Third Encounter: 500 G and a Ferrystone

When it’s all said and done, Sven will have paid you back a total of 1,000G, the amount he originally borrowed from you for The Ornate Box. This will complete the quest, and there are no further rewards to be obtained. However, you will encounter Sven later, so his story isn’t quite finished just yet. He plays a major role in the overarching story in Dragon’s Dogma 2, so this seemingly random encounter actually gives you some insight into a major character.

How to get gold fast in Dragon’s Dogma 2

The fastest way to get gold early in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is to head to the mountainous area just northwest of Vernworth. Here you will find several cave entrances that actually lead into mines, either Collapsed Mines, Derelict Mines, the Trevo Mine, etc. Inside are a ton of ore nodes that you can mine easily. You’ll get various ores like Copper Ore, Silver Ore, and Gold Ore, which are all used for crafting but can also be sold for easy profit.

Another way to make this gold-making process go faster is to make sure you recruit a Pawn to come with you who has the Hawker specialization. This allows you to sell items directly, essentially turning them into a merchant. With this strategy, you can just continue cycling through the mines and selling the ore to your Hawker Pawn so you don’t get over-encumbered.
