Dragon’s Dogma 2: How to remove guard hostility

Stop right there, criminal scum!

A funny thing happened to me on my way to the masquerade. As I neared the building, some uppity noble ran up and smacked me in the face. Then some guards joined. If this has happened to you, here’s how to remove NPC and guard hostility in Dragon’s Dogma 2.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is unabashedly a silly game. I’ve never seen NPCs, ranging from random beggars to blue-blooded elites, so eager to approach my 6’5″ cat-man and start throwing hands. It just goes to show that if you break the rules, it doesn’t matter your lot in life; rich or poor, the law is the law, and everyone will take a turn beating your criminal ass into the dirt.

You have two ways to remove guard and NPC hostility in Dragon’s Dogma 2. The first is to get arrested and thrown into gaol where you buy your freedom. Another way is a bit easier on the wallet and feels more like an exploit than anything.

When you break the law in Dragon’s Dogma 2, either by attacking an innocent or being in a place you shouldn’t be, you become wanted. You’ll know you’ve done something bad because guards will start trying to dropkick you like they were up all night watching Jackie Chan movies. NPCs can also join, despite you being a warrior armed to the teeth or a wizard who can fling meteors for fun.

The guards will attack until you’re either incapacitated and arrested, or you’re killed and forced to load a prior save. If the game saved your progress after you became wanted, you’ll need to clear the target off your back. One way to remove guard or NPC hostility in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is to get arrested and sent to the gaol. Once behind bars, reach out to a patrolling guard you can bribe for your freedom. This can be expensive, as the guard I spoke with was asking for about half my total gold.

If you pay, you’re set free with a lighter wallet. As soon as you leave the gaol, all the stuff that was taken from you will re-enter your inventory.

There is a cheaper way, as I mentioned before. Guard and NPC hostility in Dragon’s Dogma 2 can be removed if you leave the town or city and sleep at the nearest campsite. If you’ve been arrested, use our guide on how to break out of jail and then follow the prior steps. It worked for me, and the local potato merchant finally stopped trying to break his foot off in my ass.
