Bungie showcases Dread forces ahead of Destiny 2: The Final Shape

Don't Dread the new enemies joining the fight.

The Final Shape is on its way, and Destiny 2 players will soon have new threats to contend with. Alongside the new expansion, The Witness is revealing the full extent of its forces: the Dread.

While players may have already encountered Tormenters throughout Lightfall, Bungie shared a closer look at the other Dread tearing up the Pale Heart of The Traveler.

For the first time since the Scorn in the Forsaken expansion, Destiny 2 is getting a new enemy faction. The Dread will be featured in The Final Shape, coming in distinct varieties that take up different roles on the battlefield. Bungie took to social media and a This Week in Destiny communication to showcase each newly revealed Dread with a short video to preview what players could expect from the new foes and offer a more detailed look.

The Husk

The video for the Husk offers a glimpse at the abrupt destruction these foes can deliver. Husks have three eyes and sharp angular features, a lot like the Hive. Perhaps they were once Hive troops that have now been twisted by The Witness. Husks also seemingly bear Worm larvae, popping out to harass Guardians after a Husk is defeated. These enemies attack aggressively with a sword in each hand.

Husks are the Dread’s fast-attack units. They dive into battle, chasing down Guardians and attacking with a flurry of swipes. When players defeat a Husk, the fight doesn’t end there, as a worm-like creature erupts from the chests of fallen Husks, chasing down and exploding on unfortunate Guardians.

The Grim

Bungie’s highlight of the Grim showed how the new enemy can control the battlefield. Grims rain destruction from above, acting as a highly-mobile flying threat. The most iconic features of Grims are, of course, their wings, long tail, and the Witness tech that makes up their head. In the claws of each Grim it carries a Resonance weapon, a rotating, interlocking mass of pyramid technology.

The Grim take the the sky and use their weaponry to assault players from all angles. When they’re not weaving around players’ fire or responding with their own, Grims can unleash a blast wave of suppressing Resonant energy.

The Harbinger and Weaver

A video showcased the Harbinger and Weaver enemies together, demonstrating how the foes can use our own powers against us. The Harbinger is a tall adversary that looks a lot like Rhulk, the final boss in the Vow of the Disciple Raid. Instead of a glaive, Harbingers are equipped with Stasis or Strand-infused staves. Weavers, on the other hand, are Cabal Psions corrupted by The Witness’ influence. Weavers come in two varieties, like Harbingers, either wielding Stasis or Strand.

Harbingers and Weavers will play a tug of war with players for control of the battlefield. Not only can Harbingers bring pain with ranged attacks, but they can also Suspend or Freeze Guardians with Stasis or Strand energy. Weavers have their Resonant-infused weaponry, but they can also bear Stasis and Strand down on players. Weavers can pull players toward them with a thread of Strand or slow things down with some Stasis.
